13:50 – My Mate Alfie
A monster 6f sprint handicap to start with 26 runners declared and plenty of them from the UK. Strike Red for the Richard Fahey yard will be near the top of the market and was a winner here on soft ground last season. I’ll go for the joint top-weight MY MATE ALFIE. He is a course and distance winner and has been running in better races recently. Hopefully, he takes advantage for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane.
14:25 Purple Lily/Wingspan (each-way)
Jockey Billy Lee isn’t too far off Colin Keane in the jockeys’ title race again and he partners PURPLE LILY in the Group 2 Blanford Stakes. She was third in the Irish Oaks and wasn’t beaten far when fifth to Fallen Angel in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. This 1m 2f trip should suit and she looks a major player for trainer Paddy Twomey. WINGSPAN could represent a bit of each-way value.
15:00 – Bedtime Story
Aidan O’Brien’s BEDTIME STORY wasn’t as impressive despite winning last time at very long odds on, but she’s shown plenty in her races before that. She was impressive at Leopardstown on debut before putting up a demolition job at Royal Ascot and on that type of form is hard to oppose as she chases the four-timer in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes.
15:35 – Bradsell
The Group 1 Flying Five and it’s hard to get away from BRADSELL. He’s lightly-raced and a multiple winner over this 5f trip including at York and Deauville in his two races to date this season.
16:10 – Cowardofthecounty (each-way)
The National Stakes is a key trial for next year’s Irish Classics and Henri Matisse heads the market. However, he looked a little quirky when winning the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh and nearly ditched Ryan Moore in the final furlong. I’d sooner back COWARDOFTHECOUNTY each-way after his win over 6f last time. This step up to 7f should suit.
16:45 – Kyprios
He can be quirky, but we know how good the dual Ascot Gold Cup winner KYPRIOS is on his day. He’s only rated 1lb higher than Giovellotto but that doesn’t tell us the full story, When he’s on his ‘A’ game he’s very hard to beat. His Goodwood win was franked by Sweet William at Doncaster on Friday and despite being beaten in this contest last season, he’ll be very hard to beat now.
17:20 – No Such Thing
These sales races are always challenging to get a handle on but Aidan O’Brien has put cheekpieces on Right and True for the first time. I’m swayed towards Ger Lyons’ NO SUCH THING, who could improve significantly for his debut run when he is second to rank outsider Orchidaceae on debut. That run may have put him spot-on for a crack at this.
17:55 – Longbourn (each-way)
We end with a tricky handicap and LONGBOURN can be rewarded for his consistency. A winner at Leopardstown when claimer ridden on his penultimate start, he’s been dropped a couple of lbs for his runner-up spot at Tipperary last time. Ross O’Sullivan’s runner was third in this contest last year and can be a player again.
