Leopardstown 14:50 – Porta Fortuna

It’s very hard to ignore the claims of Donncha O’Brien’s runner, PORTA FORTUNA. She’s won her last two starts and Tom Marquand rides again as he did when she won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, two starts back. She’s very good and if Fallen Angel makes the running, she’ll have a target to aim at.

Leopardstown 15:25– Economics

ECONOMICS sprang into the big leagues when winning the Dante at York earlier in the Spring but a setback interrupted his season. He won at Deauville last month on reappearance and gets a bit of weight-for-age against the older horses. The Irish Champion Stakes and Champion Stakes at Ascot are his targets and he may have too much speed for some of these.

 

Doncaster 15:40 – Illinois

I’m looking to the final English Classic of the season – the St Leger – for our anchor bet in Saturday’s multiple. ILLINOIS ran really well in the Great Voltigeur at York and looks to be crying out for this step up in trip to 1m 6f after finishing a neck second to stablemate Los Angeles. He looks a very solid bet to me.

Leopardstown 16:00 – Trustyorinstinct

We hop back to Leopardstown for the final leg and the competitive 1m 4f handicap that follows the Champion Stakes. TRUSTYOURINSTINCT has been highly tried in his last couple of starts and was beaten by Continuous and Yan Brueghel, who are Group 1 contenders, the latter running in the St Leger at Doncaster earlier. He gets 3lb off Klondike and is versatile on all types of ground.
