13:50 Curragh – Strike Red

ITV go to Doncaster and Ireland on Sunday, starting at the Curragh with a 6f handicap. STRIKE RED is interesting for Richard Fahey and Billy Garrity. It’s impossible to say my each-way selection is thrown in off 94, as he’s been beaten the last twice off this mark and 93, but he ran well at Goodwood in the Stewards’ Cup and at York last time. Provided a low draw is not a big disadvantage he might have strong pace claims at the very least.

14:05 Doncaster – Haymaker

Doncaster coverage begins with a handicap over 5f. HAYMAKER is interesting at each-way here for Hughie Morrison and Billy Loughnane. A third at Ascot, stayed on well earlier this season, in a big field off 89, suggests he should be competitive here from 86. Forget his run at Windsor as he reared in the stalls and lost many lengths. Last time he hung in the soft ground.

14:25 Curragh – Purple Lily

Now the Group 2 Blandford Stakes over 1m 2f. This might be a good opportunity for PURPLE LILY to win for the second time this term. The three-year-old was a fine third over 2f further in the Irish Oaks when she just faded close to home, and prior to that was a decent fifth in the Irish 1000 Guineas over a mile. This trip looks perfect for the Billy Lee-ridden runner trained by Paddy Twomey.

14:40 Doncaster – Ten Pounds

Here’s another handicap over 7f. TEN POUNDS had 9lbs in hand according to officials last time when scoring at Newcastle, but he’s improving all the time, as he goes for a four-timer for Harry Charlton. That Newcastle victory came off 90 and he’s on 99 back on grass, but he scored at Leicester recently so that should not be an issue. Looks a promising horse. Trevor Whelan is on top as he’s been for all his wins.

15:00 Curragh – Bedtime Story

Up in class now for the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes for juvenile fillies over 7f. Albany runner-up Simmering is decent, but on home soil it’s impossible to oppose the exciting BEDTIME STORY for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. The Chesham winner landed a Group 3 at Leopardstown and last time took a Group 2 – made hard work of it in the end after travelling well – at this track. The daughter of Frankel will surely get her Group 1 win here.

15:15 Doncaster – Doom

Up in grade now for the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes for fillies and mares over 7f. DOOM ran a shocker behind Tamfana at Sandown last time, but if you forget that, she’s bang in the mix for William Haggas and Kieren Fallon. Prior to the Esher flop the daughter of Dubawi had been a fine second to Friendly Soul at Ascot and a drop in trip will be no issue at all.

15:35 Curragh – Believing

The Group 1 Flying Five over 5f. Bradsell got the run of the race in the Nunthorpe and will surely take some beating. That said, runner-up BELIEVING was on the wrong side of the track at York and this course is more of a stamina test so there’s a chance she can reverse the form under Ryan Moore for George Boughey. My selection is ultra consistent and if there is pace pressure up front she might come flying through late in the Flying Five!

15:45 Doncaster – Tactical Control

Here’s the Leger Legends Classified Stakes for former riders over 1m. There will be some dreadful riders in this low-grader so I decided this year to make my selection before the jockeys were known. TACTICAL CONTROL was where the pin came down. My hope got off the mark at Salisbury last time having been recently dropped to this trip and has only gone up 2lb. A horse who can race up with the pace but should keep going, I’d hope he is hard to keep out the frame if improving slightly. Just hope we got a good jockey! Ben Brookhouse trains.

16:15 Doncaster – King’s Lynn

A handicap over an extended 6f. No horse deserves a win more than KING’S LYNN who goes for Andrew Balding. This might be his chance, as having been beaten in decent races at Ascot, Wolverhampton and Goodwood, he has dropped 1lb and has William Carver taking off 3lb. So you could say he can run off 90 here having been fourth at Goodwood off 94 and over 7f which is far enough. This is a strong handicap, but I’d love to see him win.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
