13:50 Doncaster – Wolf Of Badenoch
The Group 2 Champagne Stakes over 7f gets us up and running. I was keen on WOLF OF BADENOCH last time and I’m just as keen on him now. Hugo Palmer has two entries and relies on this flash two-year-old. He’s looked a stayer on his two runs so far and this trip and track should suit with plenty of his form franked too.
14:05 Chester – Al Qareem
Karl Burke’s five-year-old AL QAREEM won this contest last year and will appreciate the return to the track, and in particular, the soft ground. He can just be allowed to run his race and when he gets rolling into a solid rhythm, he’ll be hard to pass. He could be a very good bet for the first time this year. He’s my Nap of the day.
14:25 Doncaster – Albasheer
The Portland handicap is over the 5.5f trip and I’m sticking with ALBASHEER, and not for the first time this season. He was just chinned in the Beverley Bullet, when staying on strongly, and will be suited by the fast pace and intermediate distance today. It should set up for a finisher and he’s the one to take advantage.
14:40 Chester – Emiyn
Declan Carroll’s runner, EMIYN, has very good form at Chester and was second in this last year, having won it the year before. He’s 1lb higher in the weights now and is sure to run a big race again. He runs without headgear and has a lovely draw in stall one. The trainer’s had a terrible season by his standards but there’s been signs of life more recently in the yard’s form.
15:00 Doncaster – Lake Forest
Kinross doesn’t look as good this season as he has done in the past. He’s seven now and maybe time is catching up with him. I’ve two against him in Lead Artist, who drops back in trip, and my selection LAKE FOREST, who steps up from 6f and posted two good efforts this season, so he’s lightly-raced and being runner up to Inisherin at Royal Ascot and Elite Status at Newbury gives him every chance at 7f for the first time.
15:40 Doncaster – Jan Brueghel
It’s Ballydoyle vs. the rest in the final Classic of the season, the St Leger. Aidan O’Brien has three of the seven runners and Wayne Lordan rides Illinois with Ryan Moore riding at Leopardstown. The one that strikes me as open to the most improvement is JAN BRUEGHEL who Sean Levey rides. A tentative selection for the Ballydoyle runner, who has three wins already, and this is only his fourth start.
