13:40 – Shah

SHAH finished runner-up to a promising sort on debut at Leicester and showed the benefit of that experience when bumping into another above-average juvenile in the Convivial maiden at this course last month. He looked inexperienced on that occasion, so there is scope for improvement, and this looks an excellent opportunity for him to go one better. Andrew Balding’s Windlord is the obvious threat following his promising effort at Sandown when last seen.

14:15 – Irish Nectar

The booking of Oisin Murphy looks significant for IRISH NECTAR, who could be set for a productive autumn again after a back-to-form fourth at Carlisle 10 days ago. He figures on a fair mark and his draw in stall 1 is positive. Law of Average needs a useful effort to defy his new mark but the style of his latest Thirsk success suggests he may be capable of that level, while Cover Point and Make It Easy make the shortlist.

14:50 – Yes I’m Mali

YES I’M MALI has progressed well this season, making a winning debut at Wetherby in June, and showing improved form to resume winning ways in a competitive nursery over this course and distance at the Ebor meeting. That was a more competitive race and he impressed with his attitude that day, so he’s taken to progress further and defy a 5 lb rise. Clive Cox’s Mythical Composer ran well in the Super Sprint when last seen in July and may give Richard Fahey’s charge the most to do ahead of Brighton Boy.

15:25 – Old Cock

OLD COCK has quickly developed into a useful performer, posting a career-best effort when winning a nine-runner handicap at Haydock four weeks ago and, with the prospect of even more to come, he is fancied to defy the handicapper again. Markoon promises to be suited by this drop back in trip and is feared, though Amsterdam and Apiarist are others to add into the mix.

16:00 – Azure Blue

There are plenty to consider, but it could be worth chancing AZURE BLUE, who has a good record at this track and, though she found the Nunthorpe too much last time, she looked on the way back at Ayr the time before. This looks a nice race for her. The thriving and hugely likeable Quinault is high on the shortlist, while Significantly is capable of going close, if ready to go after four months off.

16:35 – Dance And Romance

This looks a very competitive handicap for the grade and preference is for DANCE AND ROMANCE, who made a promising start to her career, winning two of her first three starts, and she shaped well in defeat in a stronger race than this at Goodwood last time. She was strong in the betting and did nothing obviously wrong in defeat, so she is worth another chance to confirm herself a progressive filly. Fantasy Master and Huddle up are threatening to come good soon, so they head the dangers.

17:10 – Humble Spark

Claims can be made for most in a wide-open handicap to close the card. HUMBLE SPARK is a three-time winner already this term, but Jim Goldie’s four-year-old still appeals on a workable mark, and could be worth siding with, dropping back in trip. Financer is worth a second look faced with an easier assignment than of late. Fast Steps, Young Fire, Unplugged and Poet’s Dawn also enter calculations.
