14:00 – SYMBOL OF STRENGTH

SYMBOL OF STRENGTH cost £100,000 as a yearling and he left hi debut form well behind when opening his account over an extended five furlongs at Ayr in July, given a positive ride and looking a useful prospect given the manner in which he beat two better-fancied rivals. He ran a fine race upped in grade in the Gimcrack at York last time, starting the 80/1 outsider but not beaten far in third, and that form sets a solid standard in this field. Brian also showed much improved form when winning at Newmarket on his latest outing and could be the main danger.

14:35 – LION’S PRIDE

LION’S PRIDE is a much better horse on an artificial surface – his Timeform rating is 8 lb higher than his turf one on the all-weather – and he looks very interesting back at Kempton. He was far from disgraced in the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood last time and, given he has won two of his three starts at this venue, he seems sure to launch a bold bid for a yard that has won five of the last seven renewals of this race. He can see off the challenge of Hamish, who landed this contest in 2021, with Kalpana completing the shortlist.

15:15 – KILT

The William Haggas-trained KILT comes here easily the least exposed and he can also boast some strong three-year-old form. He posted a career-best effort when second at Haydock four weeks ago, leaving the impression he’s on a fair mark, and he makes plenty of appeal taking on his elders for the first time from a good draw. Fellow three-year-old Ebt’s Guard, whose latest York run is easily excused, is another to consider, while thriving pair Valkyrian and Borgi complete the shortlist in what looks a competitive handicap.

15:45 – FEARLESS FREDDY

FEARLESS FREDDY landed the odds in good style to get off the mark at the third attempt at Leicester in June and he shaped better than the bare result on his handicap debut in a competitive nursery at Glorious Goodwood last time. A little surprisingly, he wasn’t as strong at the finish as he had been at Leicester that day, but he looks ready for this step up to a mile, and he is taken to prove himself on a good mark now. Wolverhampton one-two, Chesneys Charm and Patsy Snugfit, are likely to pose a threat, though.

16:20 – HEATHCLIFF

HEATHCLIFF is proving very progressive this season, taking his record to three wins from his last five starts in a competitive Racing League handicap at Newcastle last month. He had no problem with the drop back to six furlongs on that occasion, looking a handicapper to follow in the mould of many for the stable down the years and, having fared well with the draw, he is expected to defy a 3 lb rise in the weights and win again. Radio Goo Goo, Habooba and Intervention are other key players.

16:55 – ENRICO CARUSO

ENRICO CARUSO arrives with a lightly-raced profile, and he looked like a horse some way ahead of his mark when making a winning handicap debut at Sandown in July, He saw out the mile and a quarter trip thoroughly that day, while still looking like he was learning on the job, beating an in-form sort who has franked the form since, and he looks a big player from a 9 lb higher mark. Ascot scorer Assail also has better days ahead of him and is next on the list, with Sanitiser and Juana Ines others to consider in this intriguing handicap.

17:30 – ALMUDENA

Like many from this yard, ALMUDENA has improved since moving up in trip and into handicaps this season, winning back-to-back races at Sandown and Nottingham in July and August, and she lost little in defeat behind a well-backed and also progressive three-year-old at Newcastle last time. There should be even more to come from her and she will remain of interest following a 3 lb rise. Coco Royale and Duke of Verona head the list of dangers.
