13:15 Haydock – Ciceros Gift
CICEROS GIFT put up a huge performance on his return to action when winning on rain-softened ground at Sandown in July, but he didn’t run any race under quicker conditions at Goodwood. We will see a different performance now, provided the ground doesn’t dry out too much.
13:35 Ascot – The Wizard of Eye
His first run for the stable was an excellent victory in a top-level handicap. His run subsequently up at the top level wasn’t too bad considering he was drawn out on the wing. Back in calmer waters now and also stepping up to 7f are all positives now for THE WIZARD OF EYE.
13:50 Haydock – Master Builder
MASTER BUILDER certainly looks the perfect low-mileage improver and comes off the back of an excellent third against his age group at York. He gets the services of William Buick in the saddle. He has won under softer conditions, so any rain that falls won’t be a problem.
14:10 Ascot – French Duke
FRENCH DUKE has only had two tries for the new ownership, including an unlucky outing at the Royal meeting. He made no mistake at Glorious Goodwood though with the front two pulling a little way clear. There looks to be a suitable pace for him to run at, which should suit his hold-up tactics and we know he acts well at this track.
14:25 Haydock – Knightswood
Surely, KNIGHTSWOOD is going to have a bit of luck soon. He has been denied a clear passage late on plenty of times, which has scuppered his winning opportunity. I don’t think the track suited him last time at York and he was also racing out wide early on. I hope they don’t change tactics and drop him in mid-division as normal.
14:35 Kempton – Hamish
HAMISH won this a couple of seasons ago and has a 50 per cent strike rate on all-weather surfaces. Many races are won at Kempton by speed, and his potent change of gear is a vital asset around here. He beat Hukum in this contest before and faces nothing like that opposition this time around.
15:00 Haydock – Jumbeau
JUMBEAU put up arguably her best performance down the flying 5f at York last time, when third behind a run-away winner Star Of Lady M, under speed-favouring conditions with a massive tailwind. She doesn’t look like she’s hiding anything from the handicapper, but these are a bunch of relatively exposed handicappers.
15:15 Kempton – Talis Evolvere (each-way)
TALIS EVOLVERE hasn’t enjoyed any luck the last two times at the Glorious Goodwood meeting. He was all dressed up with nowhere to go and found himself in a similar position in the Shergar Cup mile. Switching onto a synthetic surface will prove no problem as he is already an all-weather champion winner at Newcastle. He has been overlooked in the market, so there’s some great value in his price each-way.
15:35 Haydock – Montassib (each-way)
A big turnout in numbers, and if the real Inisherin turns up, it may well turn into a procession, but he is going to be tight in the market. MONTASSIB still looks as if he has a bit more potential to improve and he’s going to need to from his current rating of 110. He’s drawn right next door to Bucanero Fuerte so will get a perfect introduction into the contest as it unfolds.
