15:05 Southwell – Emporess
Half the field make their nursery debuts after three runs (four returning from a break of five weeks or longer) and none of them have run on Tapeta before, so there are plenty of imponderables. Last week’s Ffos Las second Saytarr and Ellomate, who’s done better for cheekpieces going on, hold decent claims, but EMPORESS is given another chance, with her latest Leicester effort probably best ignored. Fallen Soldier and Indy’s Angel are also worth considering.
15:40 Southwell – Enchanted Night
Drawn wide apart from all-the-way winner Dandy Fitz over C&D four days ago, when again coming home strongly, ENCHANTED NIGHT is better positioned this time and can turn things round on 7lb better terms. Hard Nut is capable of following up last week’s Musselburgh win if in the same mood, but that’s a big ‘if’, and the more-reliable Street Life rates a bigger threat.
18:00 Southwell – Able Kane
Most of these arrive out of form but a number have become well handicapped, not least ABLE KANE, who’s struggled to dominate in big fields lately and will find this easier than he’s used to. Yeoman (second choice) looked unlucky not to finish closer at Sandown last time but another furlong would have been optimal. Conversely the seventh furlong is the concern with Motagally, who offered more here last Monday.
18:15 Newcastle – Brunello Breeze
Bohemian Breeze has become well-treated and comes into this off the back of two good efforts on turf, while the maiden Wily Campbell looks much happier on the AW than turf, and his latest Chelmsford third has been well-advertised since. However, it may be worth siding with BRUNELLO BREEZE whose record around here reads 1411 and who should be cherry-ripe now after his two outings since returning in July.
19:00 Southwell – Landlordtothestars
Although fine on Polytrack, it’s easy to argue LANDLORDTOTHESTARS is most effective on Tapeta and he’s fancied to improve his record here to three wins from four. Well-treated maiden Windsor Pass is another to consider in an open handicap, while Kalamunda, who’s 2-2 on the AW, should fare better.
19:15 Newcastle – Dc Flyer
Several with a chance here including Wee Fat Mac, who goes well here, and Court Drive, who has headgear on for the first time, but the vote goes to DC FLYER who won on his only previous run over C&D and has run well since.
20:15 Newcastle – Barleybrown
Dual C&D winner Dougies Dream is one to be interested in, especially having dropped 7lb below his last winning mark. Tees George is also worthy of consideration having won here a year ago and twice gone close this summer, but BARLEYBROWN looks solid having run well on turf last time and with a record of 2-3 over C&D. Wheres The Crumpet shouldn’t be far away judged on her run behind the selection here last time.
