14:00 – Shackleton
There was plenty to like about SHACKLETON’S first run at Leopardstown and Ballydoyle’s juveniles usually improve plenty for their debut efforts. This step up to 1m1f should suit. Tennessee Stud also shaped well on his racecourse bow at Galway and if he handles this quicker ground he looks the main danger. The debutants County Mayo and Trubshaw are worth a market check.
14:30 – No Return
A big field but not much depth. Dignam and Cercene both ran very well on their last starts and they should be in the shake up again. However, narrow preference is for NO RETURN. He was far from disgraced in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes in July and on the evidence of his last run, he looks ready for this step up in trip. Tamam Desert could outrun her likely odds and the locally trained Whywhywhy Delilah is worth a market check, as is the newcomer Slick.
15:00 – Warrior Brave (NAP)
An open enough looking contest. Self Belief is top rated and well-treated by the conditions of the race but he has done all his winning on easy ground so he’d probably like to see some rain. Of the Joseph O’Brien trio, Star Galaxy and Nightcliff appeal most but Ross O’Sullivan’s WARRIOR BRAVE (nap) could be the one to be on. He got close to a rock solid yardstick at Naas last time, Keane is up and he acts on quick ground.
15:30 – Super Sox
There should be even better to come from SUPER SOX following a recent Listed win at Cork on her first run since a maiden success in May. She may be more at home on good ground than Matilda Picotte who has two Pattern wins to her name but is best suited by an ease in the ground. Thornbrook can reach the money by confirming Leopardstown form with Wendla.
16:00 – Shes Quality
Several of these ran with credit in July in a 5f Curragh Group 2 race dominated by British-trained runners. SHE’S QUALITY finished behind Jakajaro and Ano Syra then, but there wasn’t much in it and she may improve in first-time blinkers. Go Athletico arguably holds the best credentials on overall form but lacks a recent outing. Last year’s winner Twiglight Jet faces stronger opposition this time.
16:30 – Simple Endeavour
Expensive yearling purchase SIMPLE ENDEAVOUR can step up a place following a promising second at Naas in July. Heading the list of likely dangers are Dancing Steve and Bizarre Dreams. Mary Bagot is worth considering on her first run after a summer break.
17:00 – With Annie Luck
Kevin Prendergast has sent out a couple of winners in recent weeks and has a strong contender here in WITH ANNIE LUCK who is tipped to reverse last month’s course form with Finsceal Annie. The pair have an edge over Bridge The Gap and Pandion Power on that running. Martinelli is another possibility.
17:30 – Black Soul
A wide open handicap. Lady Christa and Unterberg both ran nice races last time out and they should go well again. Kings Prince is 8lb lower than when a 2.75l second in this last year but has been badly out of form since. It might be worth taking a chance on BLACK SOUL. He is down to a career low mark, two of his better efforts have come over this C&D and Rachael Blackmore looks a significant jockey booking. Hopkins, Spy and Stepdance are others to note.
