I’m keen on Neil Callan’s mount WAITING ALL NIGHT, who looked very good at Newmarket last time when beating another of today’s rivals, Star Of Orion. He’s only been upped 4lb in the rating for that win and battled hard to win. This track should suit his running style as he’ll hopefully get to the front and make the others try to pass him.
14:05 Beverley – Democracy Dilemma
The Beverley Bullet is the signature race at the Yorkshire track, and with just seven runners declared, it’s a win-only pick for this Listed 5f contest. DEMOCRACY DILEMMA did well at York over the 5.5f when just under a length fourth to J M Jungle. Over half a furlong shorter, he can get his head in front for the sprint king Robert Cowell.
15:00 Sandown – Balmacara
Eve Johnston Houghton has her string in good form, and BALMACARA has been running consistently lately. Persica beat him by two lengths at this venue on his last start, with 13 lengths back to the third. Connections have left the hood on, he should handle the quicker conditions and gets a lot of weight from Sean, who I was initially keen on.
15:15 Chester – Caius Chorister
There are a couple on the retrieval mission here, and last year’s winner, Shanroe, travelled over from Ireland again but is making his seasonal debut. The bare eight are declared, so I’m not afraid to look at the market’s top and CAIUS CHORISTER. This track could suit her running style if she gets free on the front end and takes a drop in grade from a fair fourth in the Grade 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood.
