17:45 – Damascus Steel
He was value for a good bit more than the half a length success last time at Kempton as they didn’t go very quick and it turned into a bit of a sprint at the end. Granted a more even gallop to run at this time, Damascus Steel can defy a slight nudge in the weights to score now.
18:14 – Great Max
Looked really good when demolishing a smart field from the back of the pack at Doncaster over this 7f trip last time, to go back to back. His ability to quicken over the intermediate distance is going to stand Great Max in good stead going forward.
18:43 – Jungle Land
The three-year-old has been heavily supported in the market on all of his three lifetime starts so far and made no mistake at Redcar with a comfortable success last time. On that performance, Jungle Land is definitely going to make up into a useful handicapper and could be out of this league shortly for new trainer George Boughey.
19:12 – Warmonger
A typical, improving stayer from Sir Mark Prescott this individual has seen him rack up the hat-trick in quick succession and doing it much easier as he has gone through the grades. Warmonger does need a huge performance after a smack across the knuckles from the handicapper – up 20lb since the first of those three wins – but is the only improving youngster in the line-up. Should have too many gears for these.
19:41 – Oliver Show
I’m not saying he won’t win on the turf but as yet his profile is definitely of a better synthetic performer. He seems pretty adaptable as regards distance and despite a wide starting position in box 12, Oliver Show should easily be able to slot in just behind the leaders. He also has the equipment change today, with the tongue tie and cheek-pieces added.
20:10 – Great Bedwyn
Did really well in a staying heritage handicap at the York festival being produced with a solid challenge and then not quite lasting home. Great Bedwyn has form around this 1m 3f trip and he brings in a 50 per cent winning strike rate on a synthetic surface.
20:40 – Brave Nation
He was well in control of the outcome from a long way out when winning at Doncaster over this 5f trip last time – despite the narrow margin of victory. Brave Nation is making up for lost time now, having been a fantastic triple-digit-rated juvenile before somewhat losing his way. He’s back on track and dangerously well handicapped off a mark of 84.
