14:10 – Bay City Roller

A couple of interesting newcomers in this field but BAY CITY ROLLER looked above average when on a winning debut at Sandown last month, all the rage in the betting and displaying plenty of ability. That looks a good race beforehand, with plenty of well-bred sorts from big yards represented, and he is expected to defy a penalty before having his sights raised further. Rock d’Oro, Via Con Me and Mekhled all appeal on paper so could emerge as the main dangers to George Scott’s New Bay colt.

14:40 – Shelbourne

SHELBOURNE showed improved form to open his account over 6f on heavy ground on his handicap debut at Catterick in April and he bounced back to form after a couple of below-par efforts on the all-weather at Lingfield earlier this month. He was unable to keep tabs on a pair of improvers in the closing stages and, now in a less-competitive event, he’s expected to resume winning ways. Mereside Madness has won his last two starts on an artificial surface, so is next best ahead of Cervaro Della Sala.

15:10 – Skipper

This isn’t as competitive as the numbers suggest and SKIPPER, who boasts some strong form, looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to open his account after an excellent Southwell second last time out. He looked the likeliest winner on that occasion, but was narrowly denied by another promising type and this looks an excellent opportunity. The Crisfords’ newcomer Buon Viaggio could emerge as the one to chase him home, especially if the market vibes are positive.

15:40 – Hardman

HARDMAN remains a maiden, but ran his best race to date when runner-up over a mile at Redcar earlier this month, settling better than previously and putting in some solid work in the closing stages. He shaped as though well worth a try at this longer trip that day and he remains on a mark that he can be competitive from. Sneaky Blinder and Indian Romance head the dangers.

16:10 – Sunset In Paris

This doesn’t look a great race and the preference is for SUNSET IN PARIS, who won a similar event on the all-weather at Lingfield two starts back. He has a pretty good record in this grade, and it is probably best to ignore his latest effort back in handicap company at Newmarket, where he started at 40/1 and was outclassed. The return to all-weather and this grade will suit and he can quickly get back on the up. Trackman is the obvious threat, having had no chance with the winner when second in a similar event at Yarmouth three weeks ago, with Daphne May the best of the others.

16:40 – Next Second

NEXT SECOND has a good record on the all-weather, particularly at Wolverhampton, with all four of her wins coming over five furlongs at the course. She wasn’t disgraced in a similar event to this at that course last time, third behind Bernard Spierpoint and, now on better terms, in what looks to be another weak race, she looks the most solid option in the field. Battleofbaltimore is another to enter calculations.
