13:40 – Rogue State
Rogue State appeared to improve on what he’d been showing for Bryan Smart when third – in a first-time hood – on his first start for David O’Meara at Ripon earlier this month and he gets another chance eased into maiden company here.
14:10 – Law Degree
There are a couple of handicap newcomers open to improvement but LAW DEGREE already has some respectable nursery form in the book having won one at Beverley before matching that level when third at Leicester last time. He runs off the same mark here and could benefit by the move up to a mile based on his pedigree.
14:40 – Showboated
SHOWBOATED has taken a long time to get the hang of things but he was a creditable second in a course-and-distance maiden last month and can be excused the subsequent sixth-placed effort as he was bumped about and didn’t get a fair shot at things. Compensation could be coming his way from a basement mark of 48.
15:10 – Dunnington Lad
Having won a 0-60 handicap at Ripon earlier this month, DUNNINGTON LAD makes obvious appeal off just a 2lb higher mark in this slightly lower grade (0-55). His attitude last time looked a key asset to success and he remains very well treated on his old form for David Evans.
15:40 – Braes Of Doune
BRAES OF DOUNE gained a deserved second career win following a string of creditable efforts in defeat when successful over seven furlongs at Ayr recently and he should cope well with a step back up to the mile on this speed-favouring track.
16:10 – Mr Strutter
MR STRUTTER is the old man of the party here at 10 but he retains enough ability at this sort of level, underlined by a close second over a slightly longer trip here earlier in the month. He runs off the same mark and although it’s a bit late to be applying cheekpieces, they’ll hopefully help him eke out a little more effort when it matters most.
16:40 – War Memorial
There was plenty of money around for WAR MEMORIAL at Ripon last time but not a lot went his way and he failed to see out the trip on his first try at a mile. He’s been dropped 1 lb in the weights and deserves another chance based on his close third at Redcar towards the end of July.
17:10 – Kinetic
James Owen’s Newmarket raider KINETIC is clearly thriving at the moment and is taken to bring up the hat-trick after wins at Windsor and Wolverhampton already in August. He was a non-runner due to soft ground at the weekend and should be more at home on the likely good ground north of the border.
