HUSCAL fared best of the newcomers when sixth at Goodwood last month, showing ability despite running green. He is entitled to build on that promising introduction and gets the vote over Cape Sovereign, who has hit the frame on both starts and was behind several promising rivals at Redcar last time.
14:37 – Slaney Swagger
This looks like a good opportunity for SLANEY SWAGGER, who showed somewhat proper form for Jim Bolger in Ireland and was placed on several occasions. He was below his best when third in a Hamilton maiden on his first start for Alice Haynes a couple of weeks ago, but that was his first start in two months. So he could be sharper here. The pick of his form is comfortably the best on offer.
15:12 – Shadow Army
SHADOW ARMY failed to meet expectations at Royal Ascot after doing well to overcome inexperience and make a winning debut at York. Still, he has gotten back on track with two creditable efforts in Group company. Shadow Army was beaten only three-quarters of a length when not having the run of the race in the Prix Robert Papin, and he wasn’t disgraced when he was fourth in the Phoenix Stakes. This listed race represents a significant drop in grade for Shadow Army, and with a visor fitted to eke out a bit more, he can make his class tell.
15:47 – Padishakh
PADISHAKH ran his most encouraging race since joining David O’Meara when not beaten far in seventh at Thirsk earlier this month, and following another 3 lb drop in the weights, he could be worth siding with. Padishakh showed solid form to be placed in a listed Group 3 company for his former stable in France, so he is now on a potentially lenient mark if he can build on the promise of his latest effort.
16:20 – Strong Johnson
STRONG JOHNSON is on a losing run of 13 that stretches back to November of last year, but he has been running creditably lately and is 10 lb below his last winning mark. Strong Johnson found only one too good at Thirsk on his penultimate start, and it was a similar story at Hamilton last time, where a subsequent winner beat him. He has a good draw by the stand rail and can launch a bold bid.
16:55 – Peripeteia
PERIPETEIA rallied well to grab a share of the spoils in classified company at Musselburgh on her penultimate start. She ran at least as well when third in handicap company at Catterick earlier this month. She was successful over this course and distance earlier in her career and is respected in her current form.
17:30 – Masque Of Anarchy
MASQUE OF ANARCHY won his race in 2022 and underlined her effectiveness at this venue when runner-up here last month. Masque of Anarchy had been disappointing on her penultimate start, but she got back on track last time when beaten by only a head. She has edged up a couple of pounds for that effort but is still 9 lb below her last winning mark.
