13:50 – Charlotte’s Webb
CHARLOTTE’S WEB endured a poor run when an unlucky third at Wolverhampton last week and is fancied to gain compensation at the chief expense of Roger Varian’s Eavestone who looks to have better days ahead of her but might have to settle for a runner-up spot once more. Andrew Balding’s Lasting Love has the form to play a part too, if back on song, while newcomer Christian Bruce and Lingfield debut third Madame Sans Gene also enter calculations in this intriguing maiden.
15:00 – Rumstar
RUMSTAR hasn’t won for nearly two years, but that came in a Group 3 at Newmarket, and he ran some good races in pattern company last season, notably when beaten just over two lengths in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. He shaped better than the bare result in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood last time too, not having much go his way, and leaving the impression his best days are ahead. This is an easier assignment and he’s fancied to resume winning ways. Improving three-year-old Sergeant Wilko is an obvious danger along with the likeable Amazonian Dream.
15:35 – Qirat
QIRAT hasn’t quite kicked on as expected following his win over this C&D in the spring but remains low-mileage and, returned to this track and trip, from a handy draw, is given the narrow vote to get back on track now taking on his elders for the first time in handicaps. Metal Merchant is high on the shortlist following a good fourth in the International at Ascot. Witness Stand and Rhoscolyn are others to consider.
16:10 – Sea Legend
SEA LEGEND has the best form on show in this field, and now back at a more suitable trip, it’s impossible to side against dropping into selling company. He will be hard to beat on these terms. Roger Henry arrives in good form so should ensure James Fanshawe’s four-year-old doesn’t have things all his own way, while Clever Relation can’t be ruled out on the back of his excellent third at Nottingham.
16:45 – Too Soon
TOO SOON cost £88,000 at the breeze-ups earlier this year and made a promising start to his career when finishing fifth on his debut over seven furlongs at this course three weeks ago. He caught the eye finishing well from off the pace, while he also didn’t get a clear run through, and he looks a sure-fire improver. Skibo and Hunky Dory are also open to improvement and feared most.
17:20 – Percy Shelley
PERCY SHELLEY was a three-time winner when trained in France, showing useful form, and while he is yet to win for current connections, he’s down to an appealing mark having started life in Britain on a BHA mark of 100. He did little wrong at Haydock last time, having no issues with the step up in trip, and a similar performance will see him be competitive. Duke of Verona is of interest back from a break and Tenerife Sunshine warrants plenty of respect.
