13:50 – Task Force
TASK FORCE’s run at Goodwood can be marked up as he didn’t have the smoothest of runs behind Lead Artist. He would nearly have won that contest if he had more luck in running. The three-year-old has come into their own with the weight allowance at this time of year, and he can make that concession count Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan.
14:25 – Wild Waves
Reaching High was a very good winner at Wolverhampton and steps up in trip now to 1m 6f. He got an 11lb hike in the weights for that win, which somewhat dampens my enthusiasm for his win chance today. Andrew Balding has two runners here, and Oisin Murphy has chosen to ride WILD WAVES over Tactician. He was disappointing when last seen at Haydock, but I’ll chance him, presuming that he bounces back to the form that saw him win well at Doncaster the time before that.
15:00 – Audience
He was second in this race last year to Kinross, but AUDIENCE has been in better form this season and can score for the Gosdens for the third time.
15:35 – Epic Poet
David O’Meara has never won the Ebor Handicap but has a leading chance with EPIC POET after his runner-up finish behind Crystal Black at Royal Ascot over 1m 4f. Next time, he dropped back to 10f at this track and ran well in fifth from a horrible wide draw. Connections will be hopeful that the step up to 1m 6f will bring further improvement.
16:10 – Elmonjed
The draw will be critical for ELMONJED in stall two in the big-runner 6f sprint handicap as William Haggas tries to sign off on the final day with a winner. Two Tribes isn’t far from him in stall four and has a solid each-way chance.
16:45 – Magnum Force (each-way)
The two-year-olds race over 5f in the penultimate race of the card and the festival. Mr Lightside deserves plenty of respect, but a stall 13 draw means he mightn’t be one to take short odds about. Ger Lyons’ MAGNUM FORCE looks slightly valuable against him at the prices. He hasn’t been helped by the draw and races from stall 16, so he is an each-way shout.
17:20 – Oviedo
Ed Bethell’s OVIEDO was just chinned in this contest 12 months ago and is only 1lb higher in the weights now. He hasn’t had the rub of the green this season but may get his mojo back at a course where he’s run well before.
