Horse Racing Tips: Paddy’s pundits’ epic Cheat Sheet for day two at York

The pundits know what to do on day two of the Ebor Festival.

York Pundits Thursday 991

The York fiesta skips into day two on the Knavesmire where the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks takes centre-stage (3.35pm).

Top jockey Oisin Murphy looks to be over his latest hiccup and takes the ride aboard the well-touted Queen Of The Pride in the day’s feature.

Back in the ring to take another swing after their day one antics are Paddy’s punditry brains trust of Mick Fitzgerald, Jason Weaver, Ruby Walsh and Matt Chapman who sprint through the day’s action in our famed Cheat Sheet hack.

Will Arizona Blaze justify their confidence. Is Godolphin’s Age of Gold a handicap snip? Will the former jump jockeys upstage the Flat racing experts?

All will be revealed.

I really like Karl Burke’s filly Miss Lamai in the 6f Lowther Stakes. Her win last time at Naas was decent and she looks to be improving.

Paddy Power

HEAVENS GATE is an uncomplicated and useful juvenile, doubling her tally in comfortable fashion in sales company 17 days ago.

Jason Weaver

Celandine steps back up in trip to 6f today which is clearly going to suit. She may have been overlooked in the market.

Ruby Walsh

Miss Lamai was a good winner at Naas and could represent the value here against a better fancied stablemate in Leovanni.

Matt Chapman

I like HEAVENS GATE who won a valuable auction event at Naas last time and had proven herself high class before that with a third to stable companion Fairy Godmother in the Albany.

Mick Fitzgerald

Arizona Blaze has some good form at the top table this season, is hardy and the one I’d like to be on.

Paddy Power

ARIZONA BLAZE arrives on the back of an excellent showing in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and he’s unlikely to have reached his limit, so he takes narrow preference over Maw Lam, a useful filly getting plenty of weight from the pick.

Jason Weaver

Midnight City (each-way) hit the line very strongly at Newmarket last time, just getting the hang of things late on. She’ll learn from that and can out-run her odds now.

Ruby Walsh

I have my doubts over Maw Lam so I’m going to take her on with Arizona Blaze who has done very little wrong in defeat. It’s a tepid pick though as he carries a big weight of 9st 9lbs.

Matt Chapman

AN OUTLAW’S GRACE will be very hard to beat as he’s run in top company since winning at Salisbury over this 6f trip. A huge chance.

Mick Fitzgerald

Holloway Boy (each-way) has run some really good races this season without winning yet. He has to be on the shortlist. New Image might have a little bit of wriggle room as a win-only project.

Paddy Power

BLUE FOR YOU triumphed from the rail draw in 2022 and has pulled a low stall again so he might prove the answer again at a venue where he goes so well and low numbered draws perform so well.

Jason Weaver

We haven’t seen the best of this three year-old Aragon Castle yet and with the weight-for-age concession, he brings in some very solid form.

Ruby Walsh

Aragon Castle won well at Hamilton in July and he drops back to a mile from 10f last time. He’s wearing a tongue-tie and a draw in stall 10 doesn’t worry me.

Matt Chapman

A quick mile here might be perfect for HOLLOWAY BOY. A fine fifth at Royal Ascot in the Hunt Cup was followed by an excellent third at Glorious Goodwood. A strong each-way chance under Sam James.

Mick Fitzgerald

Oisin Murphy was on board when Queen Of The Pride won at Haydock and he has learnt that she can’t hit the front too soon. She sets the standard.

Paddy Power

QUEEN OF THE PRIDE looked a Group 1 filly in the making when winning the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock and shades the vote over stablemate Emily Upjohn.

Jason Weaver

Sea Theme (each-way) was fancied to go well against Queen of the Pride at Haydock, but slipped on the top turn so we can confidently put a line through that effort. A good winner since, she shouldn’t be written off.

Ruby Walsh

Content was third in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and was unlucky in the Irish Oaks last time. She was the best filly in that race and hopefully she’ll get a smoother run!

Matt Chapman

QUEEN OF THE PRIDE has long looked special and it might be the moment she hits the big time. If they go a strong pace she surely will be hard to beat.

Mick Fitzgerald

Ryan Moore has been booked to ride Satin after she returned from injury just eight days ago at Gowran Park. That should have brought her on plenty for this task.

Paddy Power

SEA JUST IN TIME got back on track when making a winning return at Kempton earlier in the month and remains a smart prospect.

Jason Weaver

Nakheel looks an each-way player judged by her staying on fourth last time from a very poor position. She seemed to race off the bridle and is hopefully growing more into the finished article with each race.

Ruby Walsh

Noisy Jazz (each-way) won a mile novice race at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago off a really good gallop. She takes a huge jump up in trip and class but looks to have a lot of potential.

Matt Chapman

None of these runners have high ratings and it’s all about potential. FAIRY GLEN should have an each-way chance at least under William Buick.

Mick Fitzgerald

Original Outlaw looks a player. He was a neck second at Goodwood on his nursery debut on quick ground and the conditions at York should suit him again.

Paddy Power

This is wide-open but Richard Hannon’s ANGEL HUNTER appeals as a likely improver now up in trip for his nursery bow with Ryan Moore booked so edges the vote.

Jason Weaver

Godolphin’s Age of Gold has been gelded since his last run and an opening handicap mark of 89 looks very workable.

Matt Chapman

ORIGINAL OUTLAW interests me for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. He’s blinkered and is yet to win but has run well in big fields at Salisbury and Goodwood.

Mick Fitzgerald

She won on her handicap debut last time and Coppull Hall Lane can be competitive again off just a 2lb higher mark. A solid each-way play.

Paddy Power

ALFA KELLENIC posted a useful effort as she brought up the 4-timer at Ayr last month over 6f. A 3lb rise looks fair now stepping up a furlong.

Jason Weaver

Queen’s Reign put up a super performance when winning at Goodwood in May before being beaten at Newmarket when odds-on. The return to 7f will suit and the Ed Walker stable are in tremendous form.

Matt Chapman

BACK SEE DAA (each-way) has gradually hit form this season and stays this 7f trip well. Her second at Haydock last time was decent enough and her mark of 91 looks workable.
