13:50 – Insanity (each-way)
There’s a bit of value in here with Alan King’s Insanity. I was really impressed with how he won at Ascot. He got there way too soon as well, but I don’t think he’s going to have that problem at York. He handled the ground very well at Ascot and, on form, he is definitely an each-way player.
14:25 – Point Lonsdale
This one’s over 2m and Point Lonsdale’s just got a bit of class. He was sent over to run in France at Saint-Cloud and finished a good third behind Dubai Honour in a Group 1. He’s been tried at the highest level and is stepping up to this trip. He’s been to Qatar and Bahrain as well and is a really good horse who’s very interesting. He’s the one.
15:00 – Caburn (each-way)
This is a wide-open race and there’s no standout horses so it might be better to try and fish for a bit of value. Caburn won the big sales race for Jack Jones and he’s a speedy horse who will love the ground. He’ll be ridden to come home and that might just suit, because a few of these might start to race a little early. Caburn could be the one each-way to get a place.
15:35 – Asfoora
This is all about speed and I tipped Asfoora at Goodwood and Ascot – and I’m not going to desert her now. This is a great race for her and this is the race they’ve always had mapped out. She gave Big Evs 5lbs at Goodwood and got beaten a short head by him and was unlucky. He’s giving her a 1lb now so with that swing in the weights, it’s all about Asfoora.
16:10 – Battle Queen
Andrew Balding’s filly Battle Queen has been a model of consistency. Hayley Turner rides and she’s only got 8st 3lbs on her back. My selection was narrowly beaten at Newbury and handles the ground really well. She got beaten four lengths in the Sandringham but it just gives you an idea of this filly’s work ethic. She’s been highly tried and she’s a solid bet.
16:45 – Ultrasoul
This is a very valuable maiden and lots of trainers target this. It’s very interesting that Roger Varian sends Ultrasoul, the son of Kingman, up here. He ran very well behind the highly-touted Shadow Of Light (runs today 3pm) and wasn’t beaten very far at Yarmouth when the penny started to drop late on. Ultrasoul is definitely worth a look, particularly if Shadow Of Light runs a big race.
17:20 – Native Warrior
Native Warrior has run some very good races already and went very well at Goodwood and Royal Ascot. At the ratings and the weights, there’s still mileage in his mark of 94 so Native Warrior gets the nod.
