13:50 – Wafei

It’s day 3 of the Ebor meeting at York on ITV Racing and coverage gets under way here with a handicap over a mile and a half. WAFEI could be a well handicapped horse for William Haggas and Billy Loughnane, who gets the ride due to the low weight. The Wathnan runner has only had five races and stepped up to nearly this trip when rallying well in defeat at Goodwood last time. He’s up 3lb for that but he has an edge over some of these in that he seems to really like fast ground.

14:25 – Gregory

Up in class now for the Group 2 Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup over an extended two miles. A real chance for GREGORY to get back to his best off a strong gallop. James Doyle rides for John & Thady Gosden here and after a flop in the Ascot Gold Cup. He was back to some sort of form last time when third in the Goodwood Cup. Was third in the Great Voltigeur this time last year and he has won a Listed race here, as well as a third in the Yorkshire Cup.

15:00 – Shadow Of Light

A big juvenile event in the Group 2 Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes over six furlongs. A bit of a guessing game but I’ll go with the potential of SHADOW OF LIGHT for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The unbeaten son of Lope de Vega was well backed when winning on debut and was strong in there market again under a penalty at Newmarket last time. Looks a promising colt.

15:35 – Asfoora

The big one of the day in the Group 1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes over five furlongs. Regional coming out has changed the look of this race as I thought her had a massive each-way chance. It makes my selection a little boring as I can’t see beyond ASFOORA. The Royal Ascot winner chased home Big Eve at Goodwood last time but I suspect this track will suit the Henry Dwyer runner much more and the pace in the race is ideal. She should just sit and pounce under Oisin Murphy.

16:10 – Power Of Destiny

Now a handicap over an extended mile and a quarter. It will surely be a major shock if POWER OF DESTINY is not right in the mix for Sir Michael Stoute and Oisin Murphy. The problem is Stoute’s horses are always shorter in the betting than they should be. The lightly raced three-year-old ran well at Goodwood last time and looks the ideal type to improve with time.

16:45 – High Season (each way)

A race that can throw up a decent sort in the Convivial Maiden over seven furlongs. HIGH SEASON showed promise behind a hotpot on debut at Beverely and might go well here each-way for Charlie Johnston and Connor Beasley. He got outpaced on that debut but kept on nicely and the winner had performed well on debut at Sandown so the form has some substance. Out of a Shamardal mare and he won the St James’s Palace Stakes – at this track!

17:20 – Midnight Gun

Finally a handicap for three year old’s. MIDNIGHT GUN drops back to a mile after a third to Approval over two furlongs further at Goodwood last time and that looks a good move. Had previously scored well over this trip for Ed Walker at Newmarket. Must go well.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
