13:50 – Heavens Gate
It’s the second day of the York Ebor meeting and the action on ITV Racing gets under way here with the Group 2 Lowther for two-year-old fillies over six furlongs. Leovanni looks very good but I like the extra experience of HEAVENS GATE for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. The daughter of Churchill was last seen at Naas, winning a valuable auction event, but had proven herself high class before that with a third to stable companion Fairy Godmother in the Albany. She stays well and has class.
14:25 – An Outlaw’s Grace
Now a valuable sales race for youngsters over six furlongs. On paper AN OUTLAW’S GRACE will be very hard to beat for Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore. A good winner over this trip at Salisbury on debut, then went to France in Group 2 company and was far from disgraced in fourth before a tame fifth at Glorious Goodwood. That was behind the classy Aomori City and over 7f and he will be much better dropped back to 6f. A huge chance.
15:00 – Holloway Boy (Each-Way)
A big field here for a handicap over a mile. A quick mile might be perfect for HOLLOWAY BOY and the inside draw might not be a nightmare for a closing horse as he can tuck in and then will probably come down the middle of the track. Karl Burke’s former Royal Ascot winner has been a model of consistency this term, and after a fine fifth at Royal Ascot in the Hunt Cup, he was an excellent third at Glorious Goodwood. The handicap mark is up another 1lb but he’s got a strong each-way chance under Sam James.
15:35 – Queen Of The Pride
The big race of the day in the Group 1 Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks over a mile and a half. The big decision here is three-year-olds or older horses. A peak Emily Upjohn would be bang in there, but it’s hard to know what to expect. QUEEN OF THE PRIDE has long looked special and it might be the moment she hits the big time for John & Thady Gosden and Oisin Murphy. The daughter of Roaring Lion kept on well to score at Haydock last time and if they go at a strong pace she will be hard to beat.
16:10 – Fairy Glen
This is the Listed British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes over a mile and a half. None of these have high ratings and it’s all about potential. FAIRY GLEN should have a place chance at least under William Buick. The lightly raced daughter of Farhh was third behind the re-opposing Divina Grace at Newmarket last time but kept on well that day and I suspect she will have learnt a lot.
16:45 – Original Outlaw
Here’s a 7f nursery for the youngsters. ORIGINAL OUTLAW interests me for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. He’s blinkered and is yet to win, but ran well in big fields at Salisbury and Goodwood, and should have every chance.
17:20 – Back See Daa (Each-Way)
A handicap over 7f, this looks hard to call. BACK SEE DAA has gradually hit form this season and stays on this trip well. Her second at Haydock last time was decent enough and her mark of 91 looks workable. Clifford Lee has an each-way chance.
