13:50 Newbury – Al Qareem

ITV Racing Saturday comes from Newbury, Newmarket and Ripon Saturday and gets under way here with the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer over nearly 1m6f. Al Easy is clearly the most likely winner but he’s not a horse I have ever trusted and he’s never gone this distance so I have to go with AL QAREEM who at the weights is 1lb well in with the hot favourite. Karl Burke’s runner has yet to win this season, but has run well in defeat on occasions including when second to Alsakib in the John Smith’s Silver Cup. He can go from the front if need be – although there is some pace in here – and might be hard to catch.

14:05 Newmarket – First Folio

ITV also go to Newmarket Saturday for this grey horse handicap over 6f. FIRST FOLIO really should be in the mix for Julie Camacho and Ryan Sexton. He ran terribly in this race last year off a mark off 97, but he’s down to 86 now and this could be the moment to strike. A third at Hamilton last time was not too bad.

14:25 Newbury – Woolhampton (each-way)

Now a handicap over 5f. WOOLHAMPTON is pretty consistent for Rod Millman and managed to get a win on the board this term when scoring at Windsor in June. That was off a mark of 85 and she’s 3lb higher here which should be workable. Not sure if she will be an each-way price but she’s hard to keep out the frame at least.

14:45 Ripon – Danzan (each-way)

ITV start coverage from Ripon with the prelude to the main event in the Silver Trophy Handicap over 6f. This is so hard! DANZAN is the each-way pin job selection for Tim Easterby and David Allan. The old boy has been fairy consistent this term, and two recent fifth-placed runs at York were both pretty good. On that he has an each-way chance.

15:00 Newbury – Zouzanna (each-way)

Here’s another handicap over 7f. This is wide open. ZOUZANNA is the one that interests me each-way for Oisin Murphy and Harry Charlton. What the filly needs is a very strong gallop to run at, and if she gets a strong pace here she will be closing fast. Lethal Levi is just one that often goes off quick so that should help.

15:20 Ripon – Wobwobwob (each-way)

Here’s the main betting event of the day in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap over 6f. I tipped up WOBWOBWOB in this last year and while he finished third and is now 2lb higher in the weights he’s got a fine each-way chance for Adrian Keatley and PJ McDonald. Seven furlongs will have been a bit far at Goodwood last time but he was back in form at Thirsk earlier this term and this is his type of gig.

15:35 Newbury – English Oak

The feature race of the day in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over 7f. James Doyle takes the ride for Ed Walker on ENGLISH OAK, a horse who probably has to find a few lbs at these weights. Not everyone would have been thrilled with his fourth in the Lennox at Glorious Goodwood either, but those close to this horse don’t think he let himself down properly and he returned with a slightly twisted shoe. Before that he was a tasty winner of the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot. The one to beat as he could go from the front and there is not a lot of pace.
