15:35 Newbury – Kikkuli
13:50 Newbury – Al Aasy
It’s a great opportunity for Jim Crowley to play ‘jockey’ again here on AL AASY as he doesn’t want to hit the front until the final 100 yards – like last time. It looks like there is a guaranteed pace in here so we are allowed the luxury of sitting back and watching Crowley sit motionless until well inside the final furlong.
14:05 Newmarket – Eminency
Helooked to have a lot in his favour when he went off a well-punted runner at Chepstow just nine days ago. The ground appeared to go against him then and back on a quicker surface, EMINENCY looks to have been found a decent opportunity from a mark that looks well within his reach.
14:25 Newbury – Myconian
The selection spent a little time in the wilderness after what was a pretty productive two-year-old campaign and hadn’t set the world alight for a little while prior to an excellent second last time out. MYCONIAN now finds himself very well treated and jockey Hollie Doyle is reunited with him for the assignment.
14:45 Ripon – Supreme King
He raced a little wide at Brighton around the turn into the straight and when they switched over towards the stands’ side rail, he was taken out of his rhythm quite significantly. SUPREME KING did incredibly well to rattle home and finish second that day and a reproduction of that effort and a bit more luck in running should see him get very competitive.
15:00 Newbury – United Approach
UNITED APPROACH bumped into a very well-handicapped rival Make Me King at Newcastle over this 7f trip last time. They didn’t go much of a pace earlier on and he was woefully outpaced when the tempo increased. Granted and more even gallop now, he can take a significant step forward as his lightly-raced profile suggests he might.
15:20 Ripon – Monsieur Kodi (each-way)
MONSIEUR KODI ran well in this contest last season from a mark 6lbs higher and was arguably drawn on the wrong side back then. He will be going left-hand down from his draw in stall 11 and can be produced fast and late by the elder statesman of the weighing room, Jimmy Quinn.
15:35 Newbury – Kikkuli
KIKKULI doesn’t always make things easy as he can be quite aggressive in the early stages of a race, as he was over in France last time, when favourite for a hot Group 1 contest.
He drops down a notch in company now to Group 2 level and looks to have been found an ideal opportunity by his young handler Harry Charlton to gain the biggest success of his career so far.
