14:15 – Prosperitas
PROSPERITAS was understandably green on his debut at Thirsk last month but shaped with promise and seemed to really get the hang of things late on. He kept on well in a never-nearer third and should be sharper with that experience under his belt. He drops a furlong here, but has a speedy pedigree, being by No Nay Never out of an unraced half-sister to Queen Mary and Phoenix Stakes winner Damson.
14:45 – Stanhope Gardens
STANHOPE GARDENS, a 210,000 guineas purchase as a yearling, was an encouraging third on debut at Sandown last month and looks likely to benefit from that experience. He ran green, when first asked for his effort, but he made good headway entering the final furlong and stayed on well to only narrowly miss out on second, admittedly more than five lengths behind the hugely impressive winner. That form is the best on offer here and, if making the anticipated improvement, he should prove difficult to beat.
15:15 – Big Blue Boy
BIG BLUE BOY is still searching for his first win and was below his best last time, but he can be given a good chance on the pick of his efforts this season. He was only beaten three-quarters of a length off a BHA mark of 48 three starts ago in June, while in April he was only beaten a neck and a head in third off a BHA mark of 52. He’s got the ability to win off a lowly mark of 46 here.
15:45 – Queens Road Revue
QUEENS ROAD REVUE was a bit disappointing when only sixth at Doncaster last time but she would have a good chance if returning to the sort of form she showed when successful at Leicester on her penultimate start. She had finished placed on her previous two starts and, with blinkers replacing cheekpieces, showed improved form to get off the mark. .
16:15 – Orbaan
ORBAAN is a nine-year-old but showed he’s still capable of useful form winning the Carlisle Bell in June, snapping a losing run stretching back nearly two years. He was down the field in the competitive Golden Mile at Goodwood last time, but it’s easy to overlook that, as he seemed to be going well to the two-furlong pole but got stuck on the rail behind fading horses. He can make his class count back in grade here.
16:50 – Bohemian Breeze
BOHEMIAN BREEZE is without a win this season but has dropped in the weights as a consequence and he shaped well of late. He had no luck in running when sixth here on his penultimate start and then hit the front sooner than ideal in a soundly-run race on deteriorating ground as runner-up at Carlisle last time. He moved through that contest like a horse at the top of his game and he can launch a bold bid off the same mark here.
17:20 – Sergeant Mayer
SERGEANT MAYER harmed his chance by pulling too hard when fourth on his penultimate start but he settled better at Nottingham last time and showed improved form to get off the mark, digging deep to win by a neck. He’s up 3 lb in the weights, but proved competitive off this mark last season, finishing runner-up on his final three starts, and looks likely to give a good account of himself.
