14:10 – Aleishka
Plenty of these have something to prove, but ALEISHKA arrives on the back of her best effort yet. Aleishka didn’t show much in maidens but she proved more competitive on her handicap debut at Beverley last month and was beaten little more than three lengths in third.
Aleishka saw that seven-and-a-half-furlong trip out well and should have no problem staying a mile here. She gets the vote off the same mark as last time.
14:45 – Tribal Chief
TRIBAL CHIEF stepped up on his maiden form when successful on his handicap debut at Nottingham in June and it was easy enough to overlook his next effort when sixth under a penalty at Yarmouth as he met significant trouble in running. He enjoyed a clearer run-through at Newbury last time and bounced back with a creditable third behind a couple of rivals who have run well since, with the winner going on to score at Goodwood’s recent festival. That’s a solid piece of form and Tribal Chief should go well off the same mark.
15:20 – Quick To Decide
Quick To Decide is a half-sister to several winners, including a smart sort in Tyson Fury, and is out of a useful mare who won as a two-year-old. James Ferguson’s filly makes some appeal on paper and, in this field of newcomers, gets the vote over Likely Perspective who is out of a mare who was an impressive debut winner at Carlisle.
15:55 – Brize Norton
Ralph Beckett has had a few impressive debut winners in the past week which increases interest in his representative BRIZE NORTON. He’s by Ardad out of a half-sister to the smart Biggles who Beckett did so well with (won the Bunbury Cup last year). Shrimp Shady is also with a leading trainer in Andrew Balding and makes some appeal on paper being a half-brother to the useful Scampi who bagged a couple of valuable handicaps last season.
16:30 – Carbine Harvester
CARBINE HARVESTER has plenty of speed in her pedigree as she’s by Hello Youmzain and out of a five-furlong listed winner in France. She’s in excellent hands with William Haggas, who has already had plenty of winners this month, and she can prove too sharp for her rivals. Ralph Beckett’s Amiloc is a half-brother to three winners, including the smart Brimham Rocks, and is second choice.
17:00 – Caprelo
CAPRELO failed to make a telling impact in maiden and novice company last season but, as a half-brother to the Group-race winning stayers Marmelo and Vent de Force, he has a pedigree that suggests he should do better in time. Caprelo duly showed improved form to make a successful handicap debut when upped in trip on his seasonal reappearance here in April, and he then ran well at Windsor the following month to finish runner-up behind a subsequent winner. He remains with untapped potential over middle distances and still looks fairly treated after edging up only 1 lb for his latest effort.
17:35 – Gold Aura
GOLD AURA was disappointing at Newmarket last time but had been knocking on the door prior to that and is worth another chance. She’d been placed on her six starts prior to Newmarket and is on the same mark as when beaten only a head on her penultimate start.
