Horse Racing Tips: Matt Chapman’s ITV Racing Picks for Saturday at Ascot, Haydock & Newmarket

Top pundit Matt Chapman reckons Indelible (16:45) at Haydock will be hard to beat.

Matt Chapman’s ITV Racing Tips

13:35 Ascot – Desert Cop
14:10 Ascot – Spirit Mixer (Each Way)
14:25 Haydock – Phoenix Passion
14:45 Ascot – Dancing In Paris
15:00 Haydock – Anmaat
15:20 Ascot – Jarraaf
15:40 Newmarket – Mountain Breeze
15:55 Ascot – Sam Hawkens
16:30 Ascot – Talis Evolvere (Each Way)
16:45 Haydock – Indelible

13:35 Ascot – Desert Cop

ITV Racing is back with a monster Saturday with the Shergar Cup – all races are shown on ITV4 – plus races from Haydock and Newmarket. The coverage gets under way with a handicap over 5f. DESERT COP might prefer 6f, but I suspect he will run well here for a stable going great guns. He was last seen at Royal Ascot, when eighth behind Unequal Love in the Wokingham, and that effort suggested he would have no problem dropping back to this trip. Andrew Balding trains with Joanna Mason on top.

14:10 Ascot – Spirit Mixer

A Stayers’ Handicap this time over 2m. Not many of these are in form and I’m going with another Andrew Balding runner as the each way selection in SPIRIT MIXER. The six-year-old was far from disgraced at Glorious Goodwood when rallying into fifth in the two and a half mile handicap. Prior to that he looked exposed at this trip but most of these are out of form. Marie Velon takes the ride.

14:25 Haydock – Phoenix Passion

ITV also go to Haydock starting here with a handicap over 1m. PHOENIX PASSION has been really progressive for Ed Walker and while up to 81 from 66 for four straight wins he could easily go in again under Saffie Osborne. Goes on any ground and a prominent running style is suited to this track

14:45 Ascot – Dancing In Paris

Another handicap this time over 1m 4f. DANCING IN PARIS has been running over a bit further of late but might enjoy this drop in trip for Alberto Sanna and Ian Williams. The son of Olympic Glory was a fine winner at this track in July and was far from disgraced at Newbury the next time before being down the field at Glorious Goodwood. He made smooth headway until weakening inside the final furlong that day and this 1m4f could be ideal.

15:00 Haydock – Anmaat

Up in class now for the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster over an extended 1m 2f. All eyes are on ANMAAT here, who if returning in top form, can outclass this field for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. The Gordon Richards runner-up of 2023 went on to Longchamp and landed the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan in May of that year but has not been seen since. This is very winnable if he is ready.

15:20 Ascot – Jarraaf

Sprinting now with a handicap over 6f. JARRAAF might well be a Group horse as he looked most progressive when slamming Fresh at this track last time. He’s gone up to 95 from 87 for that success but is a lightly raced animal who could be anything. Billy Loughnane a fine booking for Owen Burrows.

15:40 Newmarket – Mountain Breeze

This often throws up a decent youngster and it’s the Group 3 Sweet Solera over 7f. MOUNTAIN BREEZE looked ready for a step up to 7f after her staying on second last time to Arabian Dusk in the Duchess of Cambridge at Newmarket. The Albany fourth improved past the Royal Ascot third Heavens Gate that day and is probably still improving. Pat Dobbs with a big chance for Charlie Appleby.

15:55 Ascot – Sam Hawkens

Another handicap over 1m 4f but just for 3yo. SAM HAWKENS has to be interesting in this for William Haggas and Hayley Turner. The Galileo colt has only had five runs but won well at Salisbury in May before disappointing at Doncaster over further and at this trip back at Salisbury. He’s down to a mark of 86 now and has a chance to make all if connections so wish.

16:30 Ascot – Talis Evolvere (each-way)

A handicap over 1m. TALIS EVOLVERE looks poor on form but I wanted him to run in the Racing League on Thursday only for connections to refuse and his form is better than you might think at first glance. A ninth at Goodwood wasn’t a bad effort and his sixth at Newmarket showed some sparkle. He’s dropped another 1lb here to 98 and I suspect has an each way chance for Richard Hannon and Nanako Fujita.

16:45 Haydock – Indelible

The Listed Dick Hern Stakes over 1m. INDELIBLE will be hard to stop here for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. The lightly raced daughter of Shamardal began this season with a win at Doncaster and then went to Royal Ascot to finish fourth in a big field for the Sandringham. Her second last time to Spiritual was fair in desperate ground and she probably has more to offer.
