MISS HATHAWAY has been knocking on the door and has shown enough to suggest that she’s up to winning a race like this. She was no match for the impressive winner at York last time but that was the third time in a row she’s been placed and she sets a good standard based on the form of her narrow miss at Thirsk in June. The one to chase her home could be Lovely Spirit who failed to build on a promising debut when third at Ripon last time but remains with some potential.
15:00 – Caribbean Wind
CARIBBEAN WIND was disappointing at Leicester last time but sets a good standard based on her runner-up efforts at Wolverhampton and Brighton on her first couple of starts. She was far too free at Leicester last time so that effort is best overlooked and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark. Kodenza has shown ability to finish third on both starts and appeals as the most likely danger.
15:30 – Woobay
WOOBAY showed a determined attitude to win over this course and distance only a day after finishing runner-up at Ayr, and she underlined that she’s in excellent form when a close-up fourth at York nine days ago. That was a competitive and big-field handicap and Woobay kept on well to get to within a length of the winner. She runs off the same mark as at York, which is only 2 lb higher than when successful here, and she should give another good account.
16:00 – Kings Merchant
KINGS MERCHANT is progressing well and he registered a third win of a productive campaign when narrowly prevailing at Doncaster 11 days ago. That looks like useful form as the second and third had both won their previous start, and it took a career-best effort from Kings Merchant to get the verdict by a short-head. He could still have a bit more to offer and, up against older and more exposed rivals, he can enhance his fine strike rate this year.
16:30 – Poet’s Dawn
Most of these have something to prove at present but the veteran POET’S DAWN has been in good form of late and gets the verdict. He has hit the frame on his last three starts and looks likely to give a good account off the same mark. It’s worth noting that he won off this mark last season.
17:00 – Evelyn’s Phoenix
EVELYN’S PHOENIX has compiled a good record since going handicapping and has won twice and finished in the frame five times from seven starts in such company. He showed a determined attitude to win at Carlisle on his penultimate start and then ran respectably when fourth at Beverley last time, holding every chance inside the final furlong. The drop back in trip here from ten furlongs to a mile won’t be a problem (has won over seven furlongs) and this reliable sort can launch a bold bid.
