Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s best Sunday Series bets at Haydock

The racing boffins at Timeform like the look of Grant Wood in the last.

Timeform’s Haydock Racing Tips

15:45 – Solomon
16:15 – Educating Rita
16:45 – Zayer
17:15 – Mereside Diva
17:45 – American Affair
18:15 – Letsbefrank
18:45 – Grant Wood

15:45 – Solomon

Progressive for William Haggas on the all-weather earlier this year where he was successful at Southwell, SOLOMON wasn’t seen to best effect on last month’s handicap debut at York where he didn’t get a clear run and finished with running left in mid-division. Still unexposed after just four starts, he’s well worth another chance to get back on the up. Ffos Las winner Night Breeze and the very well-bred Temple City making his handicap debut for Karl Burke are others to consider.

16:15 – Educating Rita

This nursery features the smallest field on the card and none of the six can be ruled out. However, EDUCATING RITA was a ready winner of a similar event at Hamilton last time after an earlier success in a novice at Catterick and she can complete her hat-trick for Michael Dods. Airspeed, who got off the mark in a maiden at Hamilton last time, will be suited by the extra furlong here and is feared most as he could be hard to catch, while Qaseem has been progressing steadily and makes his nursery debut.

16:45 – Zayer

Archie Watson’s ZAYER shaped best when second to the more experienced Lakers at Ffos Las on his debut last month and can go one better in this maiden with that run under his belt. Angel Hunter has shown more than enough in novices at Sandown and Ascot to suggest he can win one of these so is an obvious threat along with Bowen Island who pulled clear of the rest when going down by a neck to Fred On Fire at Newcastle on his debut in June.

17:15 – Mereside Diva

MERESIDE DIVA has thrived for David & Nicola Barron since being upped to seven furlongs and remains of strong interest. A course-and-distance winner in May, she was second in a big field at York next time before gaining her latest success in a fillies’ handicap at Thirsk in June, proving more professional than half-length runner-up Mezzo Soprano. Improving three-year-olds Fair Point, a close third on her handicap debut at Ascot last time, and Sunfall, a good third at Newbury on her latest start, head the dangers.

17:45 – Letsbefrank

LETSBEFRANK is on an upward curve for Jim Goldie, winning at Hamilton and Thirsk before shaping as if still ahead of his mark when third to Zimmerman at York last time. He gets the nod over Arrange who shaped well when a half-length second to Story Horse over a couple of furlongs shorter here last time. Another solid performance is likely from the likeable Wind Your Neck In who pulled clear of the rest when a good neck second to Rich Belief at Chester last time on his first try over two miles.

18:15 – American Affair

Jim Goldie can complete a quick double as AMERICAN AFFAIR set himself up nicely for a tilt at the £100,000 bonus when readily landing a second victory in the Sunday Series at Thirsk seven weeks ago after an earlier success at Musselburgh in the spring and, whilst the handicapper has certainly had his say, the manner of that success suggests he may be up to the task. Jer Batt and Harvanna are others to consider, as is Existent, who was an unlucky fourth at Ascot eight days ago and lurks on a very attractive mark.

18:45 – Grant Wood

Paul Midgley’s GRANT WOOD was a course-and-distance winner in June and then fared best of those ridden prominently when third to Sergeant Pep back here a month ago, so he’s fancied to turn the tables with that re-opposing rival and get back to winning ways. Last-time-out winners Baba Reza and Roberto Caro are also obvious players in a wide-open sprint, with the former successful over course and distance and the latter impressing at Thirsk on his first start for a new yard.
