13:50 – Galway – Neveradullmoment

Son of Hypnos has been running out of his skin at this meeting, running away with a valuable handicap hurdle at the beginning of the festival and then on Thursday placed in a 1m 4f handicap on the Flat. Fully 15 lbs higher than for his earlier win, he still merits serious consideration from the top of the handicap.

There are several better value each-way calls further down the list and Vischio (third to SOH) has a great chance of reversing that form here on these revised terms, as long as Conor Stone-Walsh can hold on to him for a bit longer.

However, he has been found in the marketplace and the better play could be the J P McManus-owned seven-year-old NEVERADULLMOMENT. He won at the meet last year off a rating of 100 and has since run exclusively over the larger obstacles, winning off 100 and then placed off 104 and 114. Set to run off a rating of 111 here, I suspect this has been his aim all summer and I expect Charlie O’Dwyer to have in the first half dozen all the way around.

16:35 – Chester – Telemark

This 7f handicap always attracts a decent field for the prize money and several of the 12 runners excel at this tight Cheshire track, most notably the old boy Boardman and Yanifer. There is enough pace in this field – courtesy of top weight Percy’s Lad and Street Kid – to suggest that we should get a reasonable end-to-end gallop that will massively suit the lightly raced three-year-old tip.

Simon and Ed Crisford’s charge TELEMARK is still finding his feet but is gradually getting the hang of things as his victory at Thirsk off 92 suggested on his seasonal debut. Off a more sedate pace, he failed to settle off a 5lbs higher mark at York, but he is well worth another chance off the same mark. With the red-hot Silvestre De Sousa in the plate, the former champion jockey is set to hide him away in midfield from his box seven draw.

17:45 – Haydock – Percy Shelley

Several of the entries in this class three handicap over an extended two miles have been running well below par this season, hence they figure off attractive handicap marks at the moment. The likes of top-weight Law Of The Sea and veteran Arctic Fox fill that criteria as does the David O’Meara-trained PERCY SHELLEY.

With his stamina brought out that little bit more throughout his career, the son of former Derby winner Sir Percy has steadily improved and this will be the first time he has run over this stamina-sapping trip. I was taken by his first run over 14 furlongs at the Merseyside track last time out. He finished off nicely behind Story Horse having been massively unsuited by racing at the back end of the small field in a slowly run race. There could be even more to come over this extended distance off a slightly reduced mark.

18:15 – Haydock – Existent

I have literally gone over a cliff with Squealer recently, and although no damage has been done having backed him each-way, I am not prepared to go there again off a career-high mark of 95.

American Affair comes here in absolutely cracking form and will rightly have many supporters to lift this valuable class two event, his high cruising speed and turn of foot probably makes him the most likely winner of this race. As such I will be having a saver on him behind the Newmarket trained EXISTENT.

Placed behind the classy Dramatised in the 2023 Temple Stakes, the value tip was then beaten a shade over five lengths in the King’s Stand Stakes before being placed off 100 in a top-class handicap. However, in nine subsequent outings, he has rarely been seen with a chance of even climbing the place podium. That was until last time out when I thought that the six-year-old gelding was a huge eye-catcher when a close-up fourth to Albasheer at Ascot. He was continually denied a clear run and finished best of all in fourth spot beaten a length. Set to run off a mere 88 with Conor Planas taking a further 3 lbs off his back, I fancy him to run a huge race here if getting the breaks late on.
