Horse Racing Tips: Matt Chapman’s Saturday ITV Racing fancies at Goodwood & Newmarket

Matt likes Billyjoh as an each-way shout in the 15.35 at Goodwood.

Matt Chapman’s Saturday ITV Racing Tips

Goodwood 13.50 – Phantom Flight
Newmarket 14.05 – Ghost Run (each-way)
Goodwood 14.25 – True Legend (each-way)
Newmarket 14.40 – Divina Grace (each-way)
Goodwood 15.00 – Caius Chorister
Goodwood 15.35 – Billyjoh (each-way)

Goodwood 13.50 – Phantom Flight

For the final time in 2024 ITV Racing is at Glorious Goodwood for Day 5 and the action kicks off here for the Group 3 Glorious Stakes over 1m4f. Far from likely to be a strong gallop here and a huge chance for PHANTOM FLIGHT to show his Newbury victory at 16-1 was no fluke. That was last time when he beat re-opposing Al Aasy by a length and many will fancy the latter to reverse the form. But the way this race will be run I suspect Phantom Flight can get first run again under Callum Shepherd for George Scott.

Newmarket 14.05 – Ghost Run (each-way)

ITV also go to Newmarket for a couple Saturday and show this handicap for juveniles over 6f. This is wide open. GHOST RUN kept on really well to score at Newbury last time and goes handicapping off a mark of 81. It’s hard to know whether that’s a good or bad mark, but she’s open to improvement and stays this trip well while some of these might be better at 5f. I’ll have a few quid each-way.

Goodwood 14.25 – True Legend (each-way)

Here’s a handicap over 1m6f. Hard to see how Align the Stars can line-up here as he was taken out for a ground change on Thursday and this will be similar. I like TRUE LEGEND each-way for Sir Mark Prescott and Luke Morris. My hope has been consistent without winning of late but he stays very well and ran a cracker at Newcastle two runs ago when fifth in the Plate behind Onesmoothoperator. True Legend has Goodwood form and will be very hard to kick out the frame.

Newmarket 14.40 – Divina Grace (each-way)

A Listed race for fillies and mares over 1m4f. DIVINA GRACE has a few pounds to find with some of these but Rae Guest has a knack with fillies and he might just get a decent effort here. Billy Loughnane’s mount was a fine fifth in this grade last time and kept on nicely. What she brings to the table is consistency, stamina and the ground is no problem. Another each-way poke.

Goodwood 15.00 – Caius Chorister

Up in class now for the Group 2 Lillie Langtry which is for fillies and mares over 1m6f. This should be perfect for CAIUS CHORISTER who gets a new jockey in Harry Bentley for David Menuisier. I never fancied her to stay the Ascot Gold Cup trip and she didn’t, but the mare is a fabulous horse and her seconds at Ascot and Sandown this term have been very fair performances. It’s easy to argue this is her perfect trip and she just needs some pace to run at up front.

Goodwood 15.35 – Billyjoh (each-way)

The big betting race of the day in the Stewards’ Cup over 6f. BILLYJOH is going to need some luck and has a second run in the week but he’s on a mark that he can win this off 95. Mick Appleby’s challenger was a fine second to Blue Prince here on Wednesday and he might well have won that event with a clear run. It’s debatable whether dropping back to 6f is a good or bad thing, but he’s sure to finishing off strongly and hopefully there will be a crazy gallop. Rossa Ryan takes the ride on a big each-way horse.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
