ITV Racing is back at Goodwood on Thursday and starts with a handicap over 1m 2f. This is wide open. I suspect INTO BATTLE has each-way claims for the talented Ed Walker and Hollie Doyle.
I have to hope a gelding operation has not set him back, but if it’s actually helped then he might find more than his mark of 83.
The selection started the season in good form at Epsom and was a fine fifth in the London Gold Cup at Newbury which is solid handicap form. Kept on nicely last time over 1m 1f. Draw could be better but I’ll take a chance.
14:25 The Strikin Viking
Up in class now for the Group 2 Richmond Stakes for juveniles over 6f. Not original, but THE STRIKIN VIKING has already done more than most of these, winning nicely at York on debut and then chasing home Henri Matisse in the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh.
Should stay very well and probably better than the defeat suggested as sat close to a strong gallop. Hard to beat for new trainer Hamad al Jehani and James Doyle.
15:00 Jan Brueghel
It’s a Group 3 now in the St Leger trial of the Gordon Stakes over 1m4f. A poor renewal and JAN BRUEGHEL should take this in his stride for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.
The only doubt is fast ground, but he looked good at the Curragh on debut, and banged in the Group 3 International at the same track last time when staying on strongly. Should just be too good.
15:35 Emily Upjohn
Now one of the big races of the week in the Group 1 Nassau for fillies and mares over 1m 2f. EMILY UPJOHN has to give weight away to the younger horses like Opera Singer and Elmalka, but I suspect she can do that on the back of her monster run under Kieran Shoemark in the Pretty Polly over in Ireland.
That was a return to form and Bluestocking did not let the form down in the King George at Ascot last weekend. Goes on good to firm and already a Group 1 heroine. This could be huge for Shoemark and John & Thady Gosden.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
