Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday’s Glorious Goodwood Cheat Sheet for the action on ITV

It's Day 2 of the 2024 Festival and our stellar stable are back in the tipping saddle.

Pimms at the ready, darlings – it’s Glorious Goodwood this week.

There’s five full days of racing from the plush track in West Sussex and after kicking things off on Tuesday, we’re back with tips for all the ITV Racing coverage on Day 2 of the Festival.

The Group 1 Sussex Stakes is the feature race of the day (15:35) with a whopping £567,100 up for grabs for the winner and the field looking wide-open following Rosallion’s withdrawal.

There’s three other races on the tellybox, with the action getting underway at 13:50 followed by the Oak Tree Stakes (14:25) and Molecomb Stakes (15:00) before they go to post for the big one just after half past three.

We’ve called upon the services of Matt Chapman, Jason Weaver, Rory Delargy, Mick Fitzgerald and our good pals at Timeform for their best bets for the action.

LORD OF LOVE is up 4lb here but still looks raw and capable to improve more. The draw is good and he’ll be hard to kick out of the frame under Kieran Shoemark.

Jason Weaver

FRENCH DUKE wears a hood to help him settle better as he was incredibly free in the early stages at the Royal meeting. Surely that run can be upgraded provided he gets a little bit of cover in the early stages this time.

Rory Delargy

MASTER BUILDER is a good value pick for David Menuisier, who tends to line his runners up for these Goodwood races.

Timeform

FRENCH DUKE caught the eye at Royal Ascot and can show he’s on a good mark if a first-time hood helps him to settle better.

Mick Fitzgerald

I’m siding with the locally trained GOODWOOD ODYSSEY. He’s blinkered for the first time and I like the way he travelled at Newmarket last time out.

Matt Chapman

I see no reason why JABAARA won’t score for Roger Varian and James Doyle. She was good over this trip in her previous two starts, and the ground will be no issue.

Jason Weaver

FAIR ANGELLICA didn’t seem to last out the stiff mile at the Royal meeting in the Sandringham, but bounced back to form in no uncertain terms over in France back down over the long sprint distance.

Rory Delargy

STOP THE CAVALRY could be an outsider to keep an eye on. It’s a big step up for her but she was impressive when winning a Handicap at Chester last time out. She might want some rain so there’s a dig in the ground, though.

Timeform

This looks wide open but Roger Varian’s JABAARA ran a cracker when runner-up in Newmarket’s Falmouth Stakes last time out and can quickly resume winning ways in this lower grade.

Mick Fitzgerald

This race is for fillies and I like FAIR ANGELLICA, who represents a bit of value. Ryan Moore was on board when she won at Deauville and her style of racing could suit this.

Matt Chapman

I suspect AESTERIUS is very good and could be another for James Doyle but this time with Archie Watson. He impressed at Sandown last time.

Jason Weaver

ASTERIUS has done little wrong in his three races so far and granted a stronger pace to run at he probably would’ve been more impressive up the hill at Sandown. His rocket gallop can see him step up again.

Rory Delargy

USDI ATOHI has natural pace and bounced back when winning at Tipperary last time out. Ryan Moore is on board too which is always a bonus.

Timeform

AESTERIUS looks tailormade for this race and can take his career record to 3-4. Celandine brings some good 6f form to the table and looks quick enough for 5f so she’s second choice.

Mick Fitzgerald

AESTERIUS is a worthy favourite and he’s got a good draw in stall 10 as you want to be drawn high. He’ll take a bit of beating.

Matt Chapman

Pace was always going to be crucial here even when Rosallion was in the showpiece. But it’s even more so now with HENRY LONGFELLOW gifted a great opportunity to make all the running.

Jason Weaver

In the hope the blinkers have the desired effect, MALJOOM could prove up to the task now we have a depleted field.

Timeform

HENRY LONGFELLOW got first run when runner-up in the St James’s Palace, but this looks no stronger, and he looks the one to beat.

Mick Fitzgerald

I’ll side with NOTABLE SPEECH, who beat Rosallion in the 2000 Guineas earlier this year. I’ll forgive his poor run at Ascot.
