15:00 Ascot – Billyjoh (Spotlight)

Buckingham Palace runner-up BILLYJOH is taken to show further progress and go one better. He bumped into a smart rival in that Royal Ascot event and remains unexposed over 7f, so comes to the International with a big chance. Orazio, who finished strongly in the Wokingham, is second choice ahead of Bunbury Cup winner Aalto and the steadily improving New Image. Unlucky horse Carrytheone is a hostage to fortune but looks a huge player provided the cards drop right, while a few others also have clear possibilities.

15:20 Chester – Evocative Spark (The Times)

The likelihood of a solid gallop up front heightens interest in EVOCATIVE SPARK who likes to come late and has a good record here. The now-gelded Saviour would be interesting if tapping back into his juvenile promise, and he’s second choice ahead of the in-form Vince Le Prince.

17:00 Newcastle – Shaka (The Telegraph)

A number of these should be happier back on Tapeta after poor recent turf efforts but most would have been better off with Split Elevens and SHAKA in a handicap, and this may be best left to that pair after they came away in a similar race at Wolverhampton 12 days ago. Narrow preference is for the latter, with Elle-May Croot taking off 7lb today.

17:45 Lingfield – Longuerue (The Daily Mail)

This looks like a good opportunity for LONGUERUE, who hinted at a revival last time and is 13lb lower than when winning at Nottingham in May last year. She looks the pick ahead of Humaniste who has won under varied codes but whose last Flat win was in 2018. He has also hinted at a revival and shouldn’t be far away. Another to mention is Scylla who has raced only six times and steps up in trip.
