King George VI 2024 trends and stats for Ascot 3.40 on Saturday

Any clues to be had?

The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot

Auguste Rodin is bidding to follow in Highland Reel’s hooves by becoming a four-year-old winner of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes for Aidan O’Brien.

The Ballydoyle maestro has not claimed the top prize in Ascot’s summer feature since the aforementioned horse carried the Magnier/Tabor/Smith colours to victory in 2016 – and he is triple-handed as multiple Group 1 winner Luxembourg and pacemaker Hans Andersen are also in the line-up.

Despite Auguste Rodin winning seven times at the highest level, Rebel’s Romance has collected the most prize money in his globetrotting career and attempts to become Godolpin’s first winner in the prestigious race since Adayar in 2021.

King George VI odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.

King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2024 trends

DISTANCE FORM

  • 10/10 had previously won over the 1m4f trip

Bluestocking has never scored over the distance and Sunway was a close second on his first try over 12 furlongs in last month’s Irish Derby.

RATING

  • 10/10 boasted an official rating of 116 or higher

Goliath, Hans Andersen, Middle Earth and Sunway all fall short in this department.

GROUP FORM

  • 9/10 had previously claimed at least one Group 1 victory

Auguste Rodin, Dubai Honour, Luxembourg and Rebel’s Romance as well as Bluestocking are the only horses to have scored at the highest level.

LAST TIME OUT

  • 9/10 achieved a top-two finished in their most recent outing

A further mark against Hans Andersen – fifth in the Coral-Eclipse – and Middle Earth – third in the Hardwick Stakes – on their previous races.

  • 9/10 had their last run within the previous 50 days

A worry for a couple of runners as Luxembourg has been off the track for 57 days since winning the Coronation Cup at Epsom and Rebel’s Romance was last seen scoring in the Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin 62 days ago.

ODDS

  • 9/10 were available at an SP of 13/2 or shorter

Auguste Rodin, Bluestocking and Rebel’s Romance are the only horses shorter than 13/2 in Paddy Power’s betting, while Dubai Honour is a double-digit price.

AGE

  • 7/10 were aged four or older

Sunway is the only member of the Classic generation taking their chance.

COURSE FORM

  • 7/10 had at least one previous run at Ascot under their hooves

Godolphin’s globetrotter Rebel’s Romance is the only horse making their first appearance at Ascot.

SEASON FORM

  • 7/10 had at least two runs in the campaign before heading to Ascot

The only trend that every horse in the field meets.

  • 6/10 were already been on the scoreboard for the campaign

Sunway is the only runner without a victory in 2024.

King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2024 trends verdict

He may be an enigmatic and unpredictable figure but AUGUSTE RODIN meets all the trends and appears to be a worthy favourite.
