14:00 – Blessed Star
Not the strongest maiden on paper but BLESSED STAR is from a successful family, being a half-sister to numerous winners, including the two-year-old 1m winner Foundation and 6f-8.3f winner Major Partnership, both of whom were smart.
She represents a yard that can ready one so is preferred to Ryka and Consent.
Both are bred to stay well but each was a more expensive purchase than their respective yards often deal with and the latter is from the family of Dewhurst Stakes winner Intense Focus.
Market support for Nana’s House would look significant given how well connections have been made with similar sorts. While Tutu Star looked badly in need of the experience on debut but is sharply bred and represents the yard that took this race in both 2018 and 2019.
14:35 – Griselda
A strong pace is forecast here thanks mainly to the presence of Barmyblade, Unmistakeable, Glendine and Sun Petal, which should suit GRISELDA who came from off the pace when she was a wide-margin winner at Lingfield on Wednesday and would hold obvious claims if turning up under a penalty.
Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ Epicurian Lad is a potential improver switched to nurseries and is next best ahead of Unthinkable, another who has raced prominently in the past, including when winning at Beverley in May.
15:10 – Lovat Scout
Relatively cheap purchase LOVAT SCOUT is bred to be sharp – a half-brother to two-year-old 5f winner Destiny’s Spirit and out of a 5f winner – and could be up to doing the business on debut for his respected yard which has been firing in the winners of late.
Hill Street Blues was very green but caught the eye making late headway on his initial outing at York and can be expected to improve, with Native Instinct, who is from the family of Golden Horn on his dam’s side, an interesting newcomer.
Several of these have had two runs already and connections may have one eye on handicaps, but market support for Sanbona would look significant given his progress from first to second runs.
15:45 – Chat Up Line
The market has got this selling handicap right in the four years it has been run, with winners priced from 4/6 to 4/1.
With that in mind, the well-treated CHAT UP LINE didn’t enjoy the rub of the green when sixth at Beverley last time and is fancied to resume winning ways at the chief expense of likely favourite Yaajooz who also figures on a handy mark if back on song.
Ben Haslam’s new recruit Bestie, who sports a tongue-tie and reduced mark on his yard debut, also needs considering in this tight-knit contest.
16:20 – Emeralds Pride
Having landed each of her four previous starts including her reappearance, EMERALDS PRIDE‘s latest run at Beverley is easy to overlook (no room to open up until late). Eased 1 lb ahead of this, it would come as no surprise to see a bold showing as the five-year-old mare is clearly in the form of her life and also has a win over C&D to her name from her three-year-old season.
Former Declan Carroll inmate Etoile d’Alexandre, on return/handicap debut for George Boughey, needs considering, particularly if strong in the betting. Top-weight She’s Centimental sneaks into a 0-70 once more despite a near-miss at Leicester last time and can also feature.
16:55 – Crooked Crown
Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ CROOKED CROWN signalled she is ready to strike for her current yard when an eye-catching fourth at Beverley last time out so this very well-treated filly looks the way to go in this trappy sprint.
Veteran Brian The Snail rates the main danger on the back of his good Carlisle second ahead of Catterick winner Dandy Fitz and Jamie’s Choice, who showed a good attitude when winning at Musselburgh last time out.
She’s far from a regular winner, but any market support for the lightly-weighted The Grey Lass would look significant.
