13:40 – Belles Benefit
The veteran Pateen will be a tough nut to crack if able to match the form he showed when winning over C&D two starts ago but BELLES BENEFIT got her career back on track with a C&D win last month and a subsequent 4lb rise ought to be manageable for her. Jimli’s Cave, Balkotic and Secret Secret were all close up when making the frame in the same 3m1f race here three weeks ago and, of those, the last-named appeals most over this shorter trip.
14:10 – Flashthelights (NAP)
Trailblazer avoids a penalty for his surprise win at Perth last week and is still lightly raced over hurdles but this can go to FLASHTHELIGHTS (nap), who produced a great performance to beat a big field at Punchestown two starts ago and was not discredited when third at Cork last time. Headstrong 8yo Shuil Donn comes with risk attached but is not yet fully exposed and might also feature.
14:45 – Jolie Couer Allen
She has yet to deliver on her bumper promise, but JOLIE COEUR ALLEN ran to a fair level on all five hurdling starts for Willie Mullins in Ireland and might have found a good opportunity to win for her new trainer here. Fairly useful Flat-racer Cavern Club will be dangerous if he takes well to hurdling at the first attempt, while A Day To Dream went close at Fakenham last month and should also be suited by this fairly similar track.
15:20 – Dynamite Kentucky
Several of these warrant consideration in a competitive race for the grade but the suggestion is DYNAMITE KENTUCKY, who looked back in good nick when running a big race in defeat at Bangor last month. City Derby bids to complete a course hat-trick and is the second choice, while Boomslang and Shantou Champagne also make significant appeal.
15:55 – Carcaci Castle
The three chase winners, Lipa K, Forcing Bull and CARCACI CASTLE would probably all prefer ground slower than forecast. Still, the last-named handled good ground well when scoring at Hexham last month and a 3lb rise might have underestimated his dominance there. He gets the nod, with Forcing Bull feared most.
16:30 – Ilikedwayurthinking
A few of these are in good form but once-useful 10yo ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN could have been called the winner quite a long way from home over C&D three weeks ago and is given the vote in the hope his revival continues. Motion In Limine got his career back on track with a good second behind Elleon at Hexham last month and might win that rematch on this different track. Happy Du Mesnil is unexposed over this trip and is another to consider.
17:00 – Into The Sunset
Sean Og, Dr Sanderson and Breaking The Ice (preferred in that order) all ran well in defeat here on Saturday, while Going Mobile is also in good form and Over Milk Wood has made a good start to his chasing career this season. However, this might go to INTO THE SUNSET, who may not have been ideally suited by the soft ground when making an encouraging chase debut at Uttoxeter two weeks ago and won a good-ground hurdle by 7l on his only previous visit to Cartmel.
