A competitive sprint to open the card and most of the field have something to recommend them. Warrendale Wagyu (second choice) is still a work in progress but he has the ability to deal with this mark at a track he’s already won at. Level Up, High Opinion, Emperor Caradoc and Comein Comein are all feared but JOJO RABBIT won comfortably here nine days ago and he could find this setting up nicely for him too.
18:45 Doncaster – Highland Olly
This looks fiendishly competitive for the grade. Improving 3yos The Real McKay and Profiteer are high on the list, while Arthur Rose and Moakadd bring untapped potential. Roaring Ralph may prove best of the older horses and he’s second choice behind HIGHLAND OLLY. The selection shaped well over 6f here last time and stepping back up in trip can see him get off the mark.
18:55 Haydock – Soldiers Design
Persian Blue (second choice) readily accounted for her rivals when dropped into a Class 6 at Beverley last time and she probably has the ability to cope with a 7lb rise. She’s respected, along with Sparkling Red and Secret Mistral, but SOLDIERS DESIGN has joined a stable that has enjoyed some success with sprinting fillies and her Brighton win in April offers hope of better.
19:15 Doncaster – Green Pursuit
The market predicted a big run from Celeborn on debut and he landed the money in spite of his evident inexperience. He’s an obvious contender despite a penalty but that form has taken several knocks and there may be something in here to improve past him. Square D’Alboni, Solarize and Graduated are newcomers of interest but perhaps GREEN PURSUIT can progress from his second run now tackling a trip that should suit.
20:00 Haydock – Quarte Bras
There are not many runners but this looks competitive. Marmaduke Lemon is respected after his near-miss at Doncaster three weeks ago, while Cerulean Bay is a big player if he can repeat the form of his close second over 1m at Ascot last week. However, it might be worth siding with QUATRE BRAS, who resumed his progress when runner-up in a Class 3 handicap at Sandown last month and that form has been boosted by the fourth since.
21:00 Haydock – Havanarama
Top of the list is dual AW winner HAVANARAMA (nap), who has been knocking on the door on turf in his last two starts and hit a personal best with his clear second at Doncaster last time. Puella Law found more progress with her narrow defeat at Catterick ten days ago and she’s feared most ahead of handicap newcomer Thewind Cries Mary. Another to consider is C&D winner Miaswell who had an excuse at Hamilton last time and could kick on again back at this track.
