13:50 Newbury – Alyanaabi

Al Aasy has a good record when fresh so I’m not massively worried about him returning to the track after 287 days off. ALYANAABI should improve when stepping up in trip and looks like the likely winner despite the short odds.

14:05 Market Rasen – Flying Fortune

FLYING FORTUNE for the Bowens catches my eye as the stable usually targets this meeting. Their strike rate has improved recently and Flying Fortune improved last time at Uttoxeter when second in novice company. She will suit the better ground and quick pace, and a mark of 109 looks fair enough.

14:25 Newbury – Shagpyle

SHAGPYLE looks very straightforward and has a good chance of following up a win at Ffos Las last time. With Tyler Heard’s 3lb claim, she’s now actually 2lb better off than her last win. It’s a very open contest, but she’s reliable, reasonably well-handicapped, and will do for me.

14:40 Market Rasen – Manuelito

It looks like MANUELITO has been laid out for this having won at Market Rasen and then running on the Flat to protect his jumps mark. He looks progressive and gets the four-year-old allowance off a light weight. He could be hard to beat and is my best bet of the day.

15:00 Newbury – Elite Status

I’ve given Twilight Calls plenty of chances this season and don’t want to do so again, despite the step up in trip promising to suit him. Quinault looks well-handicapped but not sure he’s up to Group 3 level. I’ll take a chance on ELITE STATUS despite concerns about his soundness. When he’s good, he’s very good as he showed on reappearance beating Relief Rally over this course and distance. A big chance if 100 per cent ready.

15:15 Market Rasen – Francky Du Berlais (each-way)

I’ve gone for the old-timer FRANCKY DU BERLAIS (each-way) who has been eased slightly in the ratings to 133 and he’s a former two-time winner of this race. He’s 9lb lower than when winning here two seasons ago and I can see him hitting the frame at a decent price for the Bowens.

15:35 Newbury – It Ain’t Two

Not a great punting race but IT AIN’T TWO will be hard to keep out of the frame over this 5f trip. She has a light weight due to the conditions of entry and Oisin Murphy is riding superbly at the moment. We’ll have to see whether stall 15 is the right side of the track but there’s speed around her, which will help.
