13:45 Ascot – Rohaan

A crazy Saturday of high class racing where there is barely a moment to think. ITV Racing is everywhere, starting here with a handicap over 5f. This is wide open. King’s Lynn and ROHAAN are two dangerously well handicapped horses who could score at any moment. I tipped up the former last time on the artificial and he ran a belter but that was over 6f. Rohaan might also be better over 6f, but this is the first time he’s been rated below 100 (he races off 99) since scoring at this track in April 2021, so maybe this is the moment he will strike. A run at Newmarket recently suggested there is still some fire in his belly for Dave Evans. David Probert will be the man on top trying to come late and fast.

14:00 York – Blue For You (each-way)

ITV York starts here with a handicap over 1m. Elnajmm could be on a good mark but I have to take him on back on turf. I’ll go each-way BLUE FOR YOU for David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope. My selection has loads of good form at this track off higher marks and goes on any ground. He’s been terrible the last two runs which means his mark is how down to 95, but he started this season with a fine fourth here in a big field off 100 so he really should have an each-way chance if on song.

14:12 Newmarket – Arisaig (each-way)

A 3yo handicap over 7f. ARISAIG looks to have an each-way chance for Charlie Johnston and Neill Callan. The daughter of Harry Angel has raced plenty over a 1m this season including when eighth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot when give a ‘Jamie Spencer’ ride from off the pace. However, she scored over this trip at Lingfield and there is no reason why she won’t run a decent race here.

14:20 Ascot – Quddwah

The Group 2 Summer Mile for older horses. QUDDWAH is bidding to maintain an unbeaten record which has seen him land three on the trot for Simon & Ed Crisford. He was impressive at this track last time when he had the Queen Anne third Maljoom behind him and if he’s still improving he has every chance of scoring under Callum Shepherd.

14:35 York – Rogue Lightning (each-way)

A Listed race over 5f. I’m very happy to play ROGUE LIGHTNING each way for Danny Tudhope and Tom Clover. The Group 1 Abbaye fifth hasn’t been as good this term as he was last season, and he was down the field in the big 5f sprint at Royal Ascot. However, when sixth in the Temple Stakes at Haydock he showed a glimmer of form from off the pace and he surely will be hard to keep out the frame at the very least.

14:50 Newmarket – First Conquest (each-way)

A handicap for 3yos over 1m. I’d guess FIRST CONQUEST has more to give for Charlie Appleby and William Buick with a first time hood in place. The Wood Ditton winner flopped next time at York but was back to some form when last seen and after three runs should have more improvement. Stable does well in this race. An each-way chance.

15:10 York – Kingfisher King (each-way)

One of the big betting races of the season in the John Smith’s Cup Handicap over an extended 1m2f. Boy this is hard! Marhaba the Chap could pop up at a price, but my each-way selection is KINGFISHER KING for William Haggas and Oisin Orr. I presume this horse’s handicap mark has been saved for this race as he goes first time out off a mark of 96. That might be generous as he’s lightly raced and started off in handicaps off 100 and was dropped 1lb when last seen for a defeat over 1m6f. It’s possible he just didn’t stay that day. It’s a massive ask, but Haggas’s stable is in great form and he should be finishing off well.

15:25 Newmarket – Ancient Truth

Up in class here for the Group 2 Superlative Stakes for youngsters over 7f. Like father like son? Dubawi landed this prize in 2004 and now his son ANCIENT TRUTH tries to do so in 2024. Has landed a couple of Newmarket novice events in style and no reason not to think he might be very good.

15:45 York – Al Qareem

A Group 3 for older horses over 1m6f. AL QAREEM is a funny horse in that Im not sure exactly what trip he wants. However, he hasn’t had much chance to win a race of late and now he gets that chance for Karl Burke and Sam James. He ran well enough at this track when fourth behind Giavellotto in the Yorkshire Cup and the form of his two wins at Ascot and Chester last term ought to be good enough to land this prize.

16:00 Newmarket – Carrytheone

Always a cracking handicap in the Bunbury Cup over 7f. It’s boring but CARRYTHEONE will be very hard to kick out the frame after two recent fine runs for Michael Bell. A win here two runs ago was a fine effort and his third at Royal Ascot in the Buckingham Palace was even better as he didn’t get a clear run. Ryan Moore is on tp this 7f specialist.

16:35 Newmarket – Inisherin

The feature of the day in the Group 1 July Cup over 6f. I can’t think of any reason when INISHERIN won’t blow these away if he runs to form. The 2000 Guineas sixth was excellent in the Sandy Lane at Haydock and even better in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. The older 5f/6f sprinters are from a vintage bunch and this looks up for the taking for a young up-and-coming speedster and Kevin Ryan’s inmate is just that. Tom Eaves takes the ride and he should get a lovely lead into the finish with plenty of pace up front.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. Yo hear me Paddy?
