Royal Power is short enough for me so I’m with Sun God. He improved for stepping up to 10f and his run last time out at Newmarket was very good. He was only narrowly beaten and he can go one better than his second that day. Sean Bowen is on board and claiming 3lbs which is always a bonus.
14:05 York – Alzahir
It’s best siding with something at a bigger price in a race like this and I’ve landed on Alzahir for David O’Meara. I liked him in the Buckingham Palace Stakes but he faded terribly. I’m willing to forgive him as he’s going from an Ascot Handicap to this. He’s an each-way shout.
14:25 Newmarket – Mighty Eriu
I’ve landed on an Irish runner in Mighty Eriu for Gavin Cromwell. She ran well on her debut at the Curragh when finishing second and she followed that up with a second at Ascot last month over 5f. She’s got decent form and she steps back up to 6f here which should suit. She should go very close.
14:40 York – Funny Story (each way)
I’m siding with Funny Story even though Unequal Love could be the classiest runner in the race. Ralph Beckett’s runner has beaten Unequal Love before and she’s a decent each-way price. If the favourite doesn’t perform, Funny Story can clean up.
15:35 Newmarket – Porta Fortuna
It’s hard to see past Porta Fortuna with Ryan Moore on board. Hopefully the ground dries up a little bit for her but I can’t be with Running Lion and I would have A Lilac Rolla each way if there were eight runners so you’d get three places. Porta Fortuna went close in the 1000 Guineas before winning the Coronation at Ascot. She’s the one to beat.
