13.50 Newmarket – Chantilly

ITV Racing Friday comes from Newmarket and York and gets underway here with a 3yo handicap over 1m2f, quite an open affair. CHANTILLY did not come up to scratch at Royal Ascot when only eighth behind Going the Distance in the King George V Handicap. However, he was never placed to challenge in that event over a mile and a half, and he was a fine third before that in a race over this trip behind King’s Gambit. He’s off the same mark as at Ascot here, so is not thrown in, but he must have place claims at least.

14.05 York – Master Richard (each-way)

ITV show this handicap from York over 7f. This is wide open. MASTER RICHARD can’t be relied on, but he has a good draw in stall 6, and his fifth at Doncaster two runs ago behind the re-opposing Silver Samurai was a fine effort and gives him a good each-way chance for Ann Duffield and Rowan Scott.

14.25 Newmarket – Mountain Breeze

Up in class here for the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes for two-year-old fillies over 6f. Hard this. MOUNTAIN BREEZE looked a bit of a monster for Charlie Appleby and William Buick in two wins at this course and went on to Royal Ascot to finish fourth behind Fairy Godmother in the Albany a place behind re-opposing Heavens Gate. There was no obvious excuse but I suspect the daughter of Lope de Vega still has much to show.

14.40 York – Pretty Crystal (each-way)

Here’s a Group 3 over 6f. PRETTY CRYSTAL blew out over a mile in the 1000 Guineas, but she might be overpriced here back at 6f. The Nell Gwyn heroine looked good at Newbury, but this might yet be her optimal trip for Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr. An each-way chance.

15.00 Newmarket – Zoffee (each-way)

Here’s a handicap for older horses over 1m6f. Many will think this is too short for ZOFFEE, and they may be right. That said, he did this column a right turn when landing the Chester Cup, and he’s only 4lb higher here after a flop in the Plate at Newcastle, which I’m not fussed about as it was on artificial. My selection was second in this race in 2022, and I think he has a fine each-way chance for William Buick and Hugo Palmer.

15.35 Newmarket – Porta Fortuna

The big race of the day in the Group 1 Falmouth for fillies and mares over 1m. PORTA FORTUNA is another to have done this column a right touch with her win at Royal Ascot in the Coronation, and while I’d love Tom Marquand on her as he clearly gets on with her really well, obviously Ryan Moore is not a bad rider! Donnacha O’Brien’s star gets 9lb from Running Lion, and that really should be too good for a horse that was also second in the 1000 Guineas and in the Breeders’ Cup. Tactically, she looks bombproof.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
