14:10 – Love Games

All of these contest a nursery for the first time with LOVE GAMES just about the most interesting of them having displayed a lot more on his final qualifying run at Redcar last month. He wasn’t seen to best effect on that occasion, either, losing his position when hampered two furlongs out, and he has the potential to do better now handicapping. Toota is also a likely improver at the foot of the weights, with Bobby Jones allotted a very fair mark.

14:40 – James Webb

JAMES WEBB is a well-bred colt who is improving with each run, strong in the betting for his second start at Chepstow but unlucky to bump into a rapidly improving sort, and though he found one rival too strong again at Redcar last time, he finished much closer that time. There should be even more to come from him and this looks a good opportunity for him to deservedly open his account. Redhot Whisper is slightly more exposed but brings solid form to the table, with Yosemite Gold a newcomer to consider.

15:10 – Doha

Having shaped encouragingly on her return, the regally bred DOHA confirmed she’s on the way to developing into a smart performer when landing the Kensington Palace at Royal Ascot three weeks ago. She seemingly isn’t going to scale the heights of her sire or dam, but that was a big step forward in form terms, pulling clear of the remainder with the well-backed runner-up, and she’s worth her place at this level. Doha shades the vote ahead of the likeable Choisya, while Astral Beau, who is back in slightly calmer waters, and very low-mileage Naaey are others to bear in mind.

15:40 – Matters Most

MATTERS MOST didn’t fire on heavy ground on his last two starts last season, but he bounced back to form on his return to action back on a good to firm surface when beaten a neck at Windsor last month. He has since finished down the field in a big-field handicap at Royal Ascot, but the form of his Windsor run has a strong look to it, and he is taken to bounce back again in this less-competitive affair having landed the plum draw in stall 1. Room Service with his sights lowered, Silky Wilkie, and Wen Moon, who has fallen back down to his last winning mark, are others to consider.

16:10 – Free Speech

FREE SPEECH opened her account on handicap debut at Chelmsford last season and, though she hasn’t managed to win since, she hasn’t finished out of the first three in five starts this year. She again gave her running back on the all-weather at Kempton last month and the balance of her form stacks up. She goes in first-time cheekpieces now and she seems sure to launch another bold bid. Natzor wasn’t seen to best effect at Newcastle and he’s a threat along with It’s All About You. Polar Princess is another to keep an eye on for her in-form yard.

16:45 – Shamardal Star

A number to consider but SHAMARDAL STAR appeals as the type to do better now handicapping up in trip. He started life in bumpers, but was backed at long odds on his Flat debut over seven furlongs at Doncaster and showed fairly useful form to finish second. He has shaped well in stronger events since and should relish this step up to a mile now. Ardbraccan is a danger, while Mulciber might prove to be the pick of the three-year-olds if proving as good on turf.

17:17 – Cavalier Approach

Last week’s course and distance one-two CAVALIER APPROACH and Protest Rally (dead-heated for second) can come to the fore again, with Ed Bethell’s four-year-old taken to confirm the form over his rival turned out under a penalty and follow up with Rossa Ryan in the plate once more. Lettuce Leaf, the only three-year-old in the field, remains unexposed now taking on older rivals and could produce a bigger performance.
