14:20 – Chuti Manika

All of these are newcomers bar Harry Palmer, who failed to beat a rival in a strong novice at York on debut, but the one who makes most appeal on paper is CHUTI MANIKA. His dam was a fairly useful handicapper who was forward enough to win as a juvenile, and three of her four foals to have raced so far have won. Charlie Johnston’s last three juvenile debutants have finished placed and it would be little surprise were Chuti Manika also to give a good account.

14:55 – Be Proud

BE PROUD had been cut a bit of slack by the handicapper and he took advantage to score over course and distance a couple of weeks ago. He’s gone up 3 lb for that length success but he remains competitively treated and is clearly effective at this venue where he has won three times and been placed on multiple occasions. Also in his favour is the good form of trainer Jim Goldie who has been among the winners.

15:30 – Braes Of Doune

This race could revolve around how BRAES OF DOUNE fares over course and distance on Sunday and whether he is turned out quickly a day later. He ran well to finish runner-up on his first two starts this season over a mile and he’s likely to raise his game back at a mile and a quarter (won over course and distance on his final start last term). If Braes of Doune doesn’t take his chance the next one on the list is Highwaygrey who turned in his best effort of the season when runner-up at Carlisle on his penultimate start. He was below form back at the same venue last time but will appreciate this drop in grade and is lurking on a dangerous mark.

16:05 – Sea King

SEA KING unsurprisingly found things too competitive when down the field in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot last month but he is better judged on what he had shown when successful on his return at Ripon on his previous outing. Sea King did well to win at Ripon as he was short of room inside the final couple of furlongs and also forced to switch a furlong out. He kept on strongly, though, to lead close home and ultimately win fairly cosily by half a length. He remains well treated off just a 2 lb higher mark than for that Ripon success and this is much less competitive than the event he tackled at Royal Ascot. The application of blinkers for the first time could also coax out a bit more improvement.

16:40 – Yaaser

YAASER made no impact on his first couple of outings this season but he took a big step back in the right direction when third at York on his penultimate start and he caught the eye when making good late headway into fifth in the competitive Carlisle Bell last time. He is only 1 lb above the mark he defied at Southwell last year and his recent efforts suggest that he’s in good enough form to win off his current mark. Paul Mulrennan is back aboard for the first time since that Southwell success, while the likely strong gallop here should suit given his hold-up style (often slowly away).

17:15 – Atomise

ATOMISE is on a losing run of 17 that stretches back to 2021 but she’s been knocking on the door this season and has finished placed on all three outings. She was caught further back than ideal in a modestly-run race at Carlisle last time but stayed on well into second to leave the impression that she’s well up to winning a similar event. She should launch a bold bid off the same mark here.
