An open-looking Coral Challenge in which plenty of the runners tie in with each other on recent form. The percentage call goes to CLASSIC, who was successful on this card 12 months ago and might have won but for a less-than-smooth passage over C&D three weeks ago. Holloway Boy, another contender who didn’t get the best of runs last time, is second choice ahead of last year’s winner Perotto. Market confidence behind interesting seasonal debutant Cicero’s Gift should be heeded.

15:15 Haydock – Epic Poet (Racing Ahead)

David O’Meara has won two of the last eight runnings and has another likely type in EPIC POET, who was runner-up at Royal Ascot on his second start for the yard and remains well-treated on his old French form. Relentless Voyager bolted up at Epsom in June on his last handicap outing and maybe the chief threat ahead of the lightly raced 5yo La Yakel, who makes his reappearance. The veteran Euchen Glen arrives on the back of a win, while the first-time blinkers could be a plus for the well-bred Maghlaak

17:53 Leicester – King Of Charm

This can go to KING OF CHARM, who travelled well and was denied a clear run before keeping on well for second on his seasonal/handicap debut at Sandown three weeks ago. Travis moves back up in trip after two good 6f runs at Pontefract last month and is feared most, while last year’s close third Dashing Dick ought to leave his low-key reappearance run a long way behind.

20:50 Carlisle – Solanna (Racing Post)

Shahnaz (second choice) had Ledger back in third when ending a losing run at Hamilton recently and is still well-weighted on past form. She has a good record here but there’s a slight doubt about whether this extra distance will suit as well and it might be worth giving SOLANNA another chance now back on turf. He’s been out of luck on the AW this year but his turf form in 2023 puts him in pole position off his current mark.
