13:50 Sandown – Live In The Dream

LIVE IN THE DREAM heads the market but could be the safest option given the forecast rain that is likely to arrive by race time. Some of the opposition will have their speed blunted by any dig in the ground and he can take advantage.

14:05 Haydock – Wild Waves

Oisin Murphy rides at Haydock rather than Sandown and the hint should be taken. Oisin Murphy’s WILD WAVES comes in on the back of two wins at Kempton and Doncaster and now races off a mark of 92 in this 1m 6f contest. He looks like a solid each-way play at the prices.

14:25 Sandown – Classic

Richard Hannon’s four-year-old CLASSIC was a good second at this venue last time behind Two Tempting who re-opposes. There was just a neck in it that day and the Hannon runner can reverse the form now getting an extra 1lb at the weights.

14:40 Haydock – Forest Fairy

Tiffany is a deserved favourite but I’m willing to give FOREST FAIRY another chance in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks. She was two from two heading into the Epsom Oaks last time but that track doesn’t suit everyone and she was on the back foot from early on. She beat Port Fairy at Chester and that one won the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot. A return to that form can see her get competitive again.

15:00 Sandown – Clove Hitch

A Listed race for Fillies where a few of these re-oppose again from Royal Ascot. Soprano won at the Royal meeting but CLOVE HITCH has form on slow ground – most notably behind the future Dante winner Economics – on seasonal debut at Newbury. She won her novice stakes last time at the same venue and could spring a surprise in this contest now.

15:15 Haydock – Sheer Rocks (each-way)

One of the big betting heats of the day where Paddy’s likely to pay an extra place if all 17 runners stand their ground. SHEER ROCKS was a good winner on soft ground last season at Ascot before following up at Epsom. He then finished fifth in this race on good to firm ground, but softer conditions will suit him better. He’s just had the one run since then when given a pipe-opener on seasonal debut at Royal Ascot. He’s 2lbs lower than when running here last year and the softer the ground the better his chance.

15:35 Sandown – City Of Troy

It’s very hard to look beyond the Epsom Derby winner CITY OF TROY, whose only racecourse defeat was in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket where he ran inexplicably badly but was looked after when his chance had gone. He bounced back to form in such exhilarating fashion at Epsom that it marked him down as a very exciting prospect this season.
