Last-time-out Carlisle winner Mostar Dreams is one to consider, as are the unexposed AW winner Smouldering and Project Geofin after his eye-catching York reappearance, where he finished fourth in a big field having endured a troubled passage. The progressive handicap newcomer Arkhalia Flynn also makes the shortlist, but the selection is KODE SECRET. He is 4lb higher in his hat-trick bid but is already due another 2lb rise.

20:10 Kempton – Heathcliff (Ipswich Star)

Crafty Spirit is better than he could show at Nottingham three weeks ago and he’s respected, with Horse Whisperer and Stanley Spencer (second choice) others to take seriously. HEATHCLIFF is dropping in trip but he did really well to peg back the winner over 7f here on his handicap debut and his best days are still in front of him.

20:25 Newbury – I Love Paris (The i)

Several runners are similarly appealing in this open-looking contest. A slight preference is for I LOVE PARIS, ahead of a similar type Ravenswell. Their form has substance. See That Storm (third choice but well respected) is an obvious player, assuming he returns from a break in good fettle. While fellow handicap debutant Kingkeer is also interesting, Outgun is another for the shortlist.

21:00 Newbury – New Kings Road (The Guardian)

Being ahead of the assessor and open to further progress, NEW KINGS ROAD holds firm claims. Great Chieftain, who has a solid chance on form, is the second choice ahead of Double Red and The Ferret who ran well over C&D three weeks ago. A few others also have possibilities.
