14:10 – Lennon
LENNON didn’t show much in three relatively quick starts on the all-weather towards the backend of last year, but he has proved a different proposition since switched to turf and handicaps, opening his account on his return at Bath, and following up over a mile at this course eight days ago. The manner in which he stayed on in the closing stages, along with the stamina in his pedigree, suggests that he’ll relish and likely improve further for this longer trip, so he makes plenty of appeal turned out under a 6 lb penalty. Life On The Rocks and last year’s winner Unplugged are others fancied to figure.
14:40 – Gis A Sub
GIS A SUB sole career success came over six furlongs at this course in 2021, so his strike rate isn’t so inspiring, however, he continues to fall down the weights, and he is becoming too well treated to ignore from a career-low mark of 61. He was well backed and shaped better than the bare result at Ripon last time, coming from a long way back and ending up widest of all, and he’s not one to quite give up on yet with the cheekpieces going back on. Glory Hyde, Cavalier Approach and Secret Command are others to consider in a competitive contest.
15:15 – Ardeur
ARDEUR was well found in the market in a hot novice event on her debut at York in May and she shaped very well to finish fourth despite showing clear signs of inexperience. That form is working out very well and Ardeur took a step forward to open her account in grand style over this course and distance three weeks ago, making all of the running and readily drawing clear in the final furlong. She looks potentially smart and should have no trouble following up under a penalty before having her sights raised further. Sunshine Soul ran no sort of race at York on her latest outing but is a clear threat on her debut form.
15:45 – Old Cock
OLD COCK had already had a breathing operation prior to making his debut, but he shaped very well to finish fourth behind some useful types, and he has progressed to win both starts since, coming home with a storming run over a mile and a quarter to deny a fellow improver by half a length. That form has been boosted since and, while the drop back to a mile isn’t an obvious move, the stiff nature of this track will suit, and he remains a horse to be positive about from a 6 lb higher mark in his hat-trick bid. Handicap debutants Aviemore and Savvy Exchange are others fancied to figure.
16:15 – Late Arrival
LATE ARRIVAL showed the benefit of his reappearance run when resuming winning ways over six furlongs at Southwell in March, bouncing back to near his best form to defy a career-low mark. He has largely held his form well since, running a cracker to finish runner-up at Thirsk last month, and this past course and distance winner will remain of interest from this sort of mark in an open race. Daytona Lady and Dicko The Legend are others to consider, while Macarone is another not to give up on if dispelling his latest effort.
16:45 – Coloane
COLOANE remains a maiden, but he wasn’t beaten too far on his first two starts for this yard this season, and came in for support when coming in for an unorthodox ride at Catterick last time, kept very wide and beaten soon after halfway. She is best forgiven that effort and, now down to a career-low mark, and with a hood refitted, she may be worth chancing in a less-than-inspiring handicap. Richard Fahey’s True Nation arrives in form and is second choice ahead of last Sunday’s course runner-up Indication Rocket.
