16:25 – Northcliff
The Amazon blotted his copybook at Haydock five weeks ago but he was strong in the betting and could yet make a mockery of this mark. Fast ground and the addition of headgear are potential red flags though and there are alternatives. Clipsham La Habana and Coup De Force (second choice) can go well but NORTHCLIFF is preferred. Although only ninth at York last time, he ran well for a long way over a trip that stretches him and his earlier Ascot win offers hope that this mark is still well within range.
17:00 – Lia Rose
Last year’s C&D winner She’s A Novelty and this year’s short-head, C&D second Allonsy are clearly in serious calculations but they may prove vulnerable to LIA ROSE and Glimpse The Moon who were second and third over 1m2f here 19 days ago. Both are open to improvement over this longer trip and there’s nothing between them at the revised weights, but Lia Rose might just have the edge again.
17:32 – Brian The Snail
This could be a good opportunity for the veteran BRIAN THE SNAIL, who shaped well when fifth in a better race than this on his recent seasonal debut and has been dropped 2lb since. Wakai Umi ran well in defeat on Tapeta last week but has something to prove on fast turf and a bigger threat to the selection may come from front-running mare Notre Maison, who has good 5lb claimer Sean D Bowen enlisted today.
