13:35 Newcastle – King’s Lynn (each-way)

ITV Racing is back Saturday from Newcastle and Newmarket starting here with a handicap over 6f. It feels as though KING’S LYNN has been around forever but he’s only seven and there is no reason why he can’t make an each-way splash here for David Probert and Andrew Balding. My hope has been consistent of late and that includes a third at this track two runs ago off a mark of 94 in a deep field and he’s 2lb lower here.

14:04 Newcastle – Spycatcher (each-way)

Up in class now for the Group 3 Chipchase over 6f. Kinross can easily outclass this lot but for his first time out on the artificial, I’ll take him on. The each-way poke is SPYCATCHER for Clifford Lee and Karl Burke. Last year’s runner-up ran well on a comeback this term in the Abernant but then flopped behind Mill Stream at York. He goes well here and might be an each-way price or we will have to go in as a win bet.

14:15 Newmarket – Pouting (each-way)

Here’s a Listed race for juveniles over 6f. POUTING should have won at Windsor last time and I’ll risk her here against more obvious contenders. Finley Marsh gets the big chance for Richard Hughes and he’s on a filly who looked promising the first time. At Windsor William Buick never got going on her and she’s a lot better than the finishing result. She’s against some promising winners but I’ll have a few quid on each-way and pray.

14:35 Newcastle – Faylaq (each-way)

Here’s the Northumberland Vase Handicap over an extended 2m. FAYLAQ doesn’t often run over this distance which is a bit odd seeing that he finished a fine staying on third in this event last year. That was off a mark of 86 and he’s now on 80 so maybe this has been a long-term plot. I’ll back him each-way for Jim Goldie and Paul Mulrennan. Could be chucked in.

14:50 Newmarket – King Of Conquest

Another Listed contest in the Fred Archer over 1m4f. Hard to get away from KING OF CONQUEST who is clear of these on ratings. William Buick rides for Charlie Appleby, and the five-year-old comes here in good form after landing a Listed event at Goodwood. He stays well and is in good shape.

15:10 Newcastle – Spartan Army (each-way)

The big betting race of the day in the Northumberland Plate Handicap over an extended 2m. I’m happy to bet SPARTAN ARMY each-way here for star Billy Loughnane and Alan King. The son of Highland Reel was in great form on the artificial over the winter scoring at Lingfield and Southwell and he was a fine third at this track in March. Since then he went on grass and didn’t do much at Newbury but back on this type of surface, there might be more to come. An each-way selection as he’s not badly weighted with Duke of Oxford.

15:25 Newmarket – Nostrum

Up in class for the Group 3 Criterion Stakes over 7f. Many will have given up on NOSTRUM and it’s impossible to be confident about a horse who has flopped in his last two starts. However, once the 2022 Dewhurst third looked like a monster, he’s been gelded now so he gets one more chance for Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Kingscote.

15:40 Newcastle – Make Me King (each-way)

Here’s a handicap over 7f. This is wide open. MAKE ME KING is high in the weights, but should have an each-way chance for James Doyle. His run at Royal Ascot when eighth behind English Oak in the Buckingham Palace was a good one especially as he seemed to make the pace for his owner companion. A fourth in Meydan also showed talent and as long as he takes to this surface he should go well.
