13:35 Newcastle – Batal Dubai
Who’ve thought we’d see Batal Dubai in a handicap of just 89 when he was going into last season looking like a group horse masquerading in handicap company. Things may not have gone quite to plan yet but he is a very talented performer on a synthetic surface and he will be flashing home late in this line up.
14:04 Newcastle – Montassib
Montassib seems flexible regarding trip whether it is six or seven furlongs and possesses a very handy change of gear at the business end. Added to that, his all-weather profile is a perfect one from one and this track will certainly play to his strong finishing style.
14:15 Newmarket – Arabian Dusk
The Simon & Ed Crisford team have somewhat been in the doldrums and this could well be the turning point of the current campaign for the yard as they are far too classy to keep down for the whole season. Arabian Dusk bumped into a very tidy sort on his racecourse debut at Doncaster and that form was given a boost with the winner Twafeeg running well at the Royal meeting.
14:35 Newcastle – Faylaq
This looks to have been the long-term aim for Faylaq having run well in this particular contest last season from a mark 6lbs higher. He was also a little bit of an eyecatcher last time at Hamilton over the inadequate 13 furlongs and now steps back up to what could be his ideal discipline.
14:50 Newmarket – King Of Conquest
King Of Conquest comes in with a healthy cushion strictly on ratings and brings in some very solid recent form having beaten a few of his re-opposing rivals. He’s completely uncomplicated regarding ground conditions so the firming of the turf at Newmarket holds no fears whatsoever. It was a tough time for the Charlie Appleby squad at the Royal meeting and they need to step it up a gear in the second half of the season.
15:10 Newcastle – Grand Providence
Grand Providence looked primed to run well in the Chester Cup after an excellent return at Newbury and ran okay without pulling up any trees. She didn’t make the final line up at the Royal meeting as the ground had quickened too much for her and she now switches back onto a stamina sapping 2 miles at Newcastle on a synthetic surface which looks right up her street.
15:25 Newmarket – Tiber Flow
Tiber Flow managed to bounce back after being put on the canvas at York with a tremendous late rally from the back of the pack at Haydock. It was great to see him get up off the canvas in such convincing style. With that under his belt, he can continue to progress and the race sits up nicely with the red hot favourite Noble Dynasty being a front runner.
15:40 Newcastle – Make Me King
Make Me King went flat to the boards at the Royal meeting in the Buckingham Palace just to tee things up nicely for his stablemate English Oak and the plan worked perfectly. Anything that sat on his tail up the stand side finished towards the back of the pack and he did incredibly well to finish back in just eighth. He will be ridden with a victory in mind this time.
