13:35 – Crypto Quest
CRYPTO QUEST was below his best when only fifth at Carlisle last time but he takes a slight drop in grade here and Rossa Ryan is an eye-catching jockey booking. So it would be little surprise were he to bounce back to the sort of form he showed when only narrowly denied at Catterick on his penultimate start. That effort showed he’s on a competitive mark and it’s worth noting he won over this course and distance for his previous stable.
14:10 – Consolidation
This is a strong-looking novice but the vote goes to CONSOLIDATION, a 300,000 guineas purchase at the breeze-up sales who shaped with promise when sixth on debut at Sandown a couple of weeks ago. Consolidation looked in need of the experience but he was starting to get the hang of things late on and he should take a big step forward with that outing under his belt.
14:45 – Novello Lad
NOVELLO LAD failed to make an impact on his first two starts for Paul Midgley last season but took a step back in the right direction when third on his reappearance over this course and distance last month and he built on that when only beaten a couple of necks in third at Thirsk a few weeks ago. That effort confirmed that he’s in good form and on a competitive mark so he should launch another bold bid.
15:20 – Golden Myrrh
GOLDEN MYRRH failed to meet expectations when sent off favourite on her handicap debut at Nottingham last month but she produced a much better effort to get off the mark at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago. Golden Myrrh was always travelling nicely in a prominent position and kept on well after hitting the front approaching the final furlong to score by a length and a quarter. She’s a daughter of Frankel and cost 200,000 guineas as a yearling, so she should still have a bit more to offer for Ralph Beckett.
15:55 – Beylerbeyi
BEYLERBEYI had been on a losing run stretching back nearly two years but he had been shaping up well and gained a deserved success at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago. Beylerbeyi picked up strongly to hit the front half a furlong out and he was well on top at the finish, passing the post with an advantage of a length and a half. He’s gone up 5 lb but that was a decisive success and he looks up to winning again.
16:30 – Monsieur Melee
MONSIEUR MELEE had offered encouragement on his first few starts this season and he confirmed that promise when successful in a mile-and-a-half handicap here last month. Monsieur Melee still had plenty to do over two furlongs out, but he quickened up well to lead 100 yards out and he deserves credit for coming from off the pace in a steadily run race. A 5 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t be enough to stop him if he proves as effective over this longer trip.
17:05 – Glistening Nights
GLISTENING NIGHTS was well-backed at Wetherby last time and he found a bit of improvement to reward that support. He was never far away in a race run at a steady gallop and he picked up best to ultimately win decisively, passing the post a length and three-quarters clear. A 3 lb rise in the weights for that win looks fair and, with the potential of more to come, he gets the vote against mainly older rivals.
